ASCII-Art Pro 4.2.5

Postby Omikronman » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:45 am

This is my ASCII-art converter for the Atari ST. It transforms a monochrome picture in doodle format to a ASCII-art picture. The original lineart example has been drawn by a girlfriend of me. Unfortunately the insert of all sorts of image paste services files fails. :?

My ASCII-Art converter

Postby Omikronman » Sun Apr 12, 2009 4:43 am

Hi charles,

the source code is included.

How it works: The CORE1/2.PRG looks for the best character that matches each part of the original picture. There are several options included to get different results. You can use the text styles "bold" and "light" in addition.

Greetings ^^

Nice work Oman! Those pics are gnarly!

What file format does finalize.prg output to? My chances of ever owning a TOS machine with a 1280 x 800 screen are very slim. :D

Hello StickHead,

an option to save a real ASCII-picture is included now.

Yes, xbios function 'scrdmp' will invoke a screen dump with the built in hardware one. However it seems to be limited to ST modes only according to the documentation I have.

Somewhere I have a program that does the opposite that I wrote a long time ago. I reads ascii art as text, you tell it the char width and height in pixels. It then analyzes the font and assigns a gray scale weight to each character and then writes out a smaller pixel based image in targa format.

The naked lady was originally named to "Mermaid Tattoo". It was drawn by a girl-friend of me.

Well it's all super cool I'll say that.

It's made me sit here trying to find an ascii-art generator to have on my Unix box when I log in at the text console.

Re: ASCII-Art Pro 3.4

Postby Omikronman » Fri Feb 05, 2010 4:20 am

Tonight I released ASCII-Art Pro 3.4. I was able to improve the performance of my ASCII-art program. A picture can now be calculated up to 35 % faster by testing the pixles more quickly. Special thanks for their tips go to BoNuS, Nyh and lp. :)
