Code:BLACK - A New DEMO in STOS

Postby EstTeeEfEm » Sat Jan 16, 2016 1:19 am

Technically my 2nd demo,

    Code:BLACK
    (2Mb STFM/E)
    (TOS 2.06 or lower)
not really fluid enough and the rasters are horrible...

Does showcase 512 pics, sndh, digidrums and SID, rasters and 3/5 screen scrolling..

The lens effect is a PROPER cheat though lol...
Check it out

Hi, cool you've released something. Just trying it out. What machine does it run on? The music starts and I get the initial credits, but the screen goes white, the music keeps playing and I don't see anything. Is my bog-standard 520STFM not enough?

Thanks,

M.

Scratch that: I think I've answered my own question: running OK under emulation of a 4MB STFM. Looks cool. :)

Nice one. Runs fine on my 1.62 TOS STE.

Do you plan on staying with STOS, or intend to move to asm? Either way, would like to see more!

I'm in the transitional phase lol...

Im learning ASM but its not really at a stage where I can do any meaningful stuff, my STOS code on the other hand is starting to reach its limits.. i.e I am starting to learn what "can't" be done.
Sure I could write some nice games and better demo's in STOS but ASM will be a long way off, I dont have too mcuh time atm. I'd rather be productive as well as having my head in several books lol.

Besides, any coder worth their salt will tell you they use pseudocode to plan, STOS BASIC is just an extension of this I suppose.

The reason why I like using STOS; if you know the limits you can play within the boundaries... and the turn over time for productions is really quick.
Believe this or not, this demo started at about 6am and was uploaded around 18 hours later.. something that CANT be done in ASM unless you really know your stuff!!

Just trying it out.

Beware of the PALSPLIT command, it requires a BINARY file with simple palette code in. The RASTER.BIN file is a simple file containing 3 palettes. PALSPLIT doesnt work on reserved picture files..

and another thing, if you BLIT to LOGIC you cannot change the palette of the picture without using DOKE $FFFF82??,$???

R=palt(start(?)) is also faulty .. in fact, im gonna start looking at updating the missing link doc lol (just decided ;) )
