STOS public domain library - Sandra Sharkey / GOODMANS PDL ?

Postby exxos » Tue Mar 04, 2014 12:18 pm

Does anyone know what ever happened to all the STOS PD stuff ? Sandra Sharkey was listed in the front of the STOS manual, but also see her on a different address in a AMOS newsletter.

There must have been lots of PD vanished over the years, like Goodmans PDL (which AFAIK was after Sandra Sharkey?) used to have a good range of STOS stuff, but no idea what happened to all that stuff either :(

Sandra Sharkey (in my memories) was the lady who did the demo adventure for STAC and ran something like an Adventure Solutions magazine / library. I've got her final CD knocking about somewhere which had all the solutions that had ever appeared in her magazine. No idea she was involved in STOS too.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Sandra Sharkey is printed in the STOS manual as running the STOS PDL, Though from what I gather, Mike Goodman took over. I have been trying to contact him to see what happened to all the PD. Probably lost in time like everything else. Overall there isn't a lot of STOS stuff out there, near zero really :(

Goodmans are the official STOS Shareware Service (previously run by Sandra Sharkey).

Just sounds like a "take over" thing to me...

That's the STAC demo adventure that I said in my post Charles. The other link is also re-stating what I'd already said.

I have a couple of packets of disks with STOS related stuff in, including one which has a printed STOS public domain logo. Most of it seems related to the Misty extension though. I've also got some disks from the Goodman PD library, although I don't know how relevant they are (possibly not at all), a few have been uploaded to the zogging hell PD section, but there are quite a few more to come whenever I get my life back from work..

Its a shame really, as the only source I have for STOS stuff is what people have posted on AF. Anything other than that is simply lost. There isn't much STOS stuff about at all, and yet there was a whole PDL dedicated to it back in the day. All of which seems to be simply gone :(

I do wonder how much of it ended up in the utility sections of other PD libraries, I know some of the STOS extensions were in the utility section for Floppyshop, might be worth rooting through some of their CDs.

Yeah, Already been though those and they should already be on the STOS site, but not much STOS code, mostly demos of extensions.

I don't know if LaST PD ( http://www.atari.org.uk/ ) has anything but the copyright was last dated 2009 so I am not sure it Steve is actually still running it as a going concern or just keeping the the site up and as I recall was not always the easiest guy to get hold of.

I got in touch with him some years ago, theres a thread somewhere about it, in short, less than helpful.
