are there people still coding on Stos?

Postby nitrofurano » Sat May 12, 2012 2:03 pm

hi everyone!

since the retro development seems to be really active, at least for zx-spectrum, msx, c64, etc. (these first two with contests like csscgc or msxdev), would be great seeing how far is the activity on Atari ST, specially from development tools like Stos, or specially those cross-development tools (like Boriel's zx-basic compiler, for zx-spectrum)

where from can we know how far is this activity, and what should we do for keeping it alive? (like development contests like csscgc or msxdev, diskmags, demos, new homebrew indie games, etc.)

about Stos, i'm trying it, but i'm struggling on opening code in .asc (.txt) format, created on text editors like Gedit (Linux) - are there people having this same problem? and is there some kind of tokenizer or compiler (specially natively for Linux, or simple multiplatform tools coded in Python, like Boriel's zx-basic compiler) can create Stos .bas code or .prg executables (maybe also compatible with tos versios after 2.0 or emutos)?

thanks and cheers,
p.

gedit uses the unix line end while the atari uses both lf and cr. The best way is to save it as windows.

yes, it works fine, thanks! on Gedit we can chose the line ending (like Windows instead of Unix) and encoding (like western-iso-8859-15 instead of unicode-utf8)

I don't know how many people are still activly coding in STOS, probably not as many as other Atari languages however there certainly used to be various meetings around mainland Europe at least on a monthly basis that to my knoweledge are mainly coding events with competitions although I don't know if enteries are restricted to specific programming languages.
As I recall Thorsten a.k.a. "Mad Butcher" used to maintain a comprehensive and up to date list of such events but I cannot remember where, it might have been on the foundation two website somewhere.

There are three Atari or Atarocentric parties. Sommarhack which is during this summer, Outline and Silliventure later this year (can't remember exact dates). You can enter your games/demos/intros etc in those parties and the relative compos. Of course other demoparties in general will accept atari entries.

Thorsten, also known as Thorn / TSCC still maintains this calendar.
It is now hosted on Google: http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=hkaqs2mois255t8fngvj6p5pa4%40group.calendar.google.com

I have added on front of AF wiki. I hope this is OK.
If it's for private use, let me know and I will remove it.
