AHCC available for 68000 now

Postby simonsunnyboy » Wed Jan 13, 2010 5:23 pm

The free Ansi C compiler AHCC for TOS is now available for 68000 processors too.

For Falcon and up, there is also a version for 68020 which outputs 68020 code and only works on the newer CPUs.

I gave the new version it a try under Hatari and it seemed to work good. The builtin texteditor even has syntax highlighting for your C code.

Great piece of software - and probably a reason to get more into C on the ST!

Great! Time to try it :)

[edit]
Cool, got it working. Very nice environment, a lot like Pure C. Once you get a PRJ file (I copied it from the source distribution's hello.prj), it's good. Very fast too, a lot faster than Sozobon C was. Compiling and linking a hello world took about 4 seconds, compared with about 10 seconds IIRC on ye olde Sozobon C.

Take note that the 68000 version has no support for floating point types (IIRC)

but anyone who needs floats should really think if the ST is the right platform to code on.....
