How to use gcc.ttp ?

Postby avtandil » Thu Dec 24, 2009 3:43 pm

I'm newbie in compiling. Got from Internet GCC for Atari (files like gcc.ttp etc.). Does anybody could help me with little howto ?
I work with STeem, so any of memory amount can be set.
If to work under Windows, does Cygwin could help me ?

Hi,

gcc is probably not the best choice if you're new to compiling/coding on the Atari - I'd suggest Pure C or Ansi Sozobon (Pure C has a nice GUI and lots of knowledgeable users here tho).

I'd be kind of surprised if GCC even runs on a standard Atari due to excessive memory requirements etc. The Atari builds won't run on Windows, but you don't need Cygwin to run the windows GCC builds - the MINGW distribution is fine and there's IDEs like Codeblocks out there. You can set up a cross-compiling version of GCC that runs on Windows and builds Atari-m68k executables, but it's messy and takes a long time (not sure how easy it is in Windows; I did it on Ubuntu).

AHCC requires a 68020 or later processor. It does not run on STs yet.

And it is way more like Pure C than Sozobon....still a promising compiler!

I tried already Pure-C, but if the GCC port is already existing, I would like to test also this. In the package I found GCC.TTP but no any explanation which parameters should I put to do something.

best you can do is to try latest gcc as cross compiler, for windows or linux, what suits you best. you can use any online doc for gcc then. http://vincent.riviere.free.fr/soft/m68k-atari-mint
