GFABASIC tutorial

Postby simonsunnyboy » Thu Aug 12, 2004 5:14 pm

I've begun the project of a generic GFABASIC tutorial.
It will teach the basics of GFABASIC, how to operate and how to handle its various commands.
The current state is a rather simple webpage. I do not make it a complex page. It should stay as simple as it is and I'll probably make it downloadable chapter wise.
A basic first chapter with an introduction into the interpreter and the editor is ready.
Check http://home.tu-clausthal.de/~ifmar/gfabasic/

This is work in progress so stay tuned!
Any comments welcome!

i hope it does help the community and I hope it will add a few more coders to the Atari ST scene.

I'll leave this thread sticky for more technical discussions. I'll post announcements and additions into the News section so make sure to check there as well!

Still can't see you on icq..

[Addition:] I just noticed, you haven't authorized me! :)
We've been talking through some other type of conversation (ICQ isn't really my thing :P)

Oooh! So great! It's a slow day here at work, what with everyone on vacation, so I'll give it a go :)

Cheers

Nice one!

Thanks Simon!
I'm trying to get into coding the ST and finding Assembly tough going (those bit-planar graphics are seriously bumming me out) so I thought setting my sights a bit lower might be a good idea!

Your GFA tutorial is a real help and has set me on the way to learning a new programming language.

Cheers mate!

The GFABASIC tutorial can now be found in the Atari-Forum Wiki at http://www.atari-forum.com/wiki/index.php/GFA_Tutorial

It is easier to maintain there than updating a website ;)

I've added another chapter of the GFABASIC tutorial to the wiki. It introduces graphics and the various commands GFABASIC has to offer to draw on screen.

Enjoy yourself!

Where Do I get GFA from?

Postby Decky » Wed Jun 10, 2009 12:28 am

This GFA Basic seems interesting. I have written some very specialist software in Microsoft Studio Visual Basic. Would like to write the same in GFA to use on my Atari. Where do I get hold of the GFA software, and is it possible to create graphical interfaces, like forms with dropdowns, buttons, images, lists etc...?

Are there any more tutorials being developed? It would be nice to keep up interest in software development in the Atari by continuing with the tutorials!

Cheers!!!

http://atari.gfa.forum.free.fr/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=157 is now the official place for the tutorial.

For GUI bilding, tools are available. For a beginner I do not recommend starting with an RSC Editor. The code needed to handle RSC is not easy to gasp for the beginner. Otoh, it will work and programs will inhibit a very professional GEM look. Maybe LP or Gokmase can help you further? (In a different thread please!)

Well, the GFA forum is maintained by Tomchi. I can't do much about it. An older copy (maybe one less part) of the tutorial is available in the AF wiki aswell.
