*OUT OF PAPER error

Postby charles » Sun Nov 26, 2017 1:37 pm

hi ,, the program listing I use errors everytime

I open the port using

open"I",#16,XXX

and try to read 256 bytes using

a$=input$(256,#16)

should reach here but errors at above .
close #16

what does this signify , no bytes to read or no space to read it into?

I experienced such error recently in toilette. It was so embarrassing
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

What are you trying to achieve?
What is the XXX value. Maybe you open a channel to a printer?
open "I",#16,"filename.txt" for open file for reading
open "I",#16,"LST" or "PRN:" for open printer
you could use input #16,a$ for reading from a file

I use the STeem emulator , I open a midi port
it sends out data fine but has issues retrieving any data
even with the smallest ,one byte ..
I can even use input #16,a% too but it doesn't function .
..maybe too soon to say its a steem bug?

Code: Select all

OPEN "I",#1,"mid:"
a$=INPUT$(256,#1)
PRINT a$
CLOSE #1

Tried this and it works perfect on real Falcon030.
Can't help you with the emulator. Maybe your midi-in is not configured to the right hardware don't know how that works in STeem.

I had this notion as well ,
steem permits 2 64 byte buffer
and I know a real st(?falcon? I dunno )
has 128 byte buffer
not that makes a difference but
it does does give an error
thanks for the feedback mjvans...
oh its configured right ...I do believe STeem has emulation trouble in this area ...

and the buffer is reconfigurable to any size under steem or real st
this is where I loose a lot of time ..trying code that that works on real st and steem
porting between platforms
