Snd Files.

Postby ast » Wed Aug 03, 2016 6:04 pm

Hi everybody,

New fresh member since today, i'm demomaker on Amstrad Plus since old years.
I'm trying to use a song from TomChi given by Zorro 2 in .snd format. (Thanks man!)

First, i'd like to know how to rip the digidrum used in this song ? (snd file of course)
How can I find them ? Where is the start & the end ?

Thanks for your help.

try to open that .snd with chip tracker maxYMiser: http://www.preromanbritain.com/maxymiser/ If it open it, you will be able to export samples

Maybe the file has been protected (by removing tags on which the maxYMiser file parser relies on).
[EDIT ->] Or maybe it has been packed with another packer than the one that maxYMiser can handle (ICE packer) ?

Also if it's a Tomchi track, those are most certainly STe DMA samples.
But i guess your aim is to have those played on the CPC+ DMA capabilities? :)

I don't know what the exact magic of that protection process is.
But you better ask Tomchi for the original editable file, or better, the sample themselves directly. ;)

And thanks for the kind words. :)

Can you ask me about the process ?
How to know which digidrum is played ?
Is it based of a special value in reg 8,9 or 10 or somethiing else ?
Can you explain me ?

If that file is uncompressed, then you can just open it in e.g. Audacity as RAW 8bit signed mono. And you'll be able to cut wanted digi sample from it.
I used that method for extracting samples from other binary Atari files and memory snapshots.

Ok, for Audicy. Is it a windows tool ? And my last question was how to manage these drums ? Do Some ym registers give us the digidrum to play or anything else ?

Your doc is very interesting but it doesn't tell me more about the digidrum management in the snd files.._

Then it's maxYMiser specific, and you probably need to ask gwEm for this.

Take note that not all .SND files on the Atari originate from maxYMiser. Foremost it is a container format that may contain replay routines from any tool or something handwritten.

File format description is available at http://sndh.atari.org/, they may optionally be packed with ICE 2.4.

In this particular case, it is indeed best to contact Tomchi directly.

Hi,

David want to use the maxYmiser music of the Temptation but he needs to have an YM music format to use it on CPC.

I join the unzipped music if you can help him.

Thanks !

Good news ! He was in vacancies I suppose...

Advertise us when you'll release on Amstrad CPC, I'm a little bit curious and very impatient ;)

ast: maxYMiser natively handle ICE Packer packing & depacking.
