Changing disk

Postby Matari » Sun Apr 10, 2005 4:19 pm

Hi !

Wen I'm playing the game "The secret of Monkey Island" which requires 4 discs. I start the first one and it works fine and then when the game asks for the second disc I change and do the same thing (no reset) but the game doesnt load with the second disc. Can someone please help. Why doesnt it work with the second disk. Thanks

Few things to check (but not an exhaustive list):

(1) Check you image of the second disk is OK

(2) Try another version (e.g. another groups crack)

(3) Make sure you try pressing fire or space (etc!) after swapping disks so the prog knows you've swapped disks!

(4) Are you sure disk 2 is disk 2? E.g. have you/someonelse labelled then incorrectly?

I'll probably think of more, if someone doesn't beat me to it...

well I agree with aktiv8, it's always a good idea to test the same game from another compilation / crack. You can test it with another emulator too. If the same disk image works with another emulator, then it should be a real problem. In that case could you give an URL where I can download your version ?

Yep good point by Leonard - try another emulator. Tray Saint instead of Steem and vice-versa.

Also, try an older version of an emulator - eg steem v3.1 and v3.2

Eng : My Secret of Monkey Island (SMI ) works OK with Steem, Winston...
I have the same problem with Maupiti Island...but not with Wings of Death (for instance ).

I tried with SainT 1.61, 1.71, and 1.99 series...

Tomorrow I'll try on Win 2K system, with SainT 1.xx

I can mail a zip with my versions of emu and game.

French : Ma version française de SMI marche très bien avec Steem, Winston... Je rencontre les memes difficultés avec Maupiti Island, mais pas avec Wings of Death.

J'ai essayé avec SainT 1.61, 1.71, and 1.99 series...

Demain j'essaie avec Windows 2000 et SainT 1.xx

Je tiens à la disposition des programmeurs un exemplaire exact de mon emu et du jeu...

I think it would be best to use Steem for teh games.

As for Maupiti Island - I *think* the best working crack is by Zippy of TMB, so if that's not your version try the other.

Saint is more for demos, so may not handle some of the 'game routines' as well as steem for instance.

First, I must say that I like SainT better than Steem...

Now, I've noticed that when I change disc before the game (MSI) is asking it to me, there's no pb !!

Some other games works fine with two (or more ) discs...

Is there anyway to fix that, in the emu itself or in the disc...?

Humm good info Matari.

Maybe it's a problem related to keyboard emulation. ( there was same problem with union demo intro in a previous saint release).

I'll check this as soon as I get some coding spare time.
