I presume that we need to all be playing on the same galaxy, of course - if we all go for Novoids, I suspect we'll come up to a degenerate ceiling. How about Novoids for practice, then, and Intermedia for the competition? Or will that be too easy as well?

I don't really know the game so I can't comment. Intermedia sounds fair though. We' ll do that.

Then I open proceedings with 411168, if we reach a ceiling too quickly on this we'll have to switch to a harder galaxy.

42968 is only 10% of zoe, but it was fun to play. Maybe we could switch galaxy on saturday, and count both weeks as seperate competitions, with half of the normal points.

Oids is a great game, it's not that game you say once more, because a round is really long, but after you a round is finished, you say, yes that's a nice one.

I've been trying a different control arrangement on steem, with the joystick down key over by my fire-button key instead of with the other directions. Should make it easier to get the shield on and off when needed, once I'm properly used to it. Just don't forget to switch your shield off when recharging it!

I fiddle with the controls in steem all the time. When using a pad, up for jump is a pain on platform games, as is accelerate on racing games. Buttons, it's the way forward! (In emulation terms, anyway)

Hey Zoe (can I call you Zoe?) Nice to see you sharing your tips mid-competition and not waiting 'til the end, unlike a certain character beginning with 'X'.

PS: there is a problem with this control method: Sometimes I catch myself trying to accelerate and put my shield on at the same time, the game won't allow this as in effect you are pressing up and down on the joystick at the same time, which everyone knows causes irrepairable damage to the time continuum, or at least the loss of a ship usually.

Now now... what Sir Newton and Her Einstein would think about what you are doing? :P
Please do not cause rifts in the fabric of the universe. Glad you are having fun with the game. Didn't get a chance to play yet since I got a new hard disk and I need to reinstall lots of stuff (plus some new things that recently came to me from the UK 8) ).

I guess multi-tasking small controlled bursts of thrust with shields and shooting is the skill to develop for this game, especially playing on the harder levels where you need to curve shots round rocks and detonate novabombs midway across the screen (you don't need to do this on Intermedia, except maybe when dealing with a Biocreate Mothership on the last planet).

I thoroughly recommend a few goes getting used to how hard you can land the ship, too - it can take a little bit of a beating on the landing and even right itself if you land at an angle next to vertical.

I would make an effort to the next game, if you behave :)
And my trick is useful for the next season !
For Oids i would not help, i never played at this game !
So i went through hell especially because daeghnao is a killer in this game :)
In fact i think the gameplay very slow compared to Utopos ...
But it is pretty fun to play !

So how are we doing? Are there many people playing? Are you getting anywhere? Do we need to go to a different galaxy?

I'm playing! The only problem is... each go takes so long! This is definitely a game for patient players.

I'm at 155,217 at the moment, but I know I can do better!

Well I haven't been able to play the game much since most of my atari time has gone to installing software to my new (silent \o/) hard disk. I'll probably make up this weekend.

Have I mentioned I completely suck in physics? These guys had to implement almost everything. Including initial velocity in ballistics! Great engine! 10600

Was playing this a bit last night, managed to get through to the end with a few more lives intact. 487575! Those little Oids were really happy!

Hmm, I might have obsessed about this a little... 502480 and that was just by the skin of my teeth, with a very lucky run up from the yellow transporter on the last world. *phew*
