In the absence of any new versions of STEEM over last 18-24 months does that now mean that there are no bugs left to be fixed and STEEM is "final" ?

I wouldn't say steem is final...

There are still al ot of things whihc have been reported to the authors and things they would like to implement themselves, however - as with a lot of things - real life gets in the way

I dont doubt there will be a new version of Steem appearing in the future, but when - who knows...

So to say again, I wouldn't say steem is final... But as final as it's going to get for a little while

STeem and USB Joysticks

Postby koloth » Sun Nov 12, 2006 6:51 pm

Greetings!

I just discovered STeem and agree it is great. The information I've found so far acts like joysticks just work. I've configured my joystick in the configuration panel and each direction appears to be assigned when I manipulate the joystick, but when I get into emulation -- Nothing.

Have I missed something ?

Hi, try switching your scroll lock key on, or from the joystick configuration menu, change to Always On at the top-right.

Windows or Linux Steem? USB joystick or something else? Did you remember to make the joystick active in the joysticks dialog?

I'm using Windows Steem and a USB joystick. I've tried all three activation settings. Does the condition (numlock off for example) have to exist before you run STeem or can you change it "on the fly" ?

As far as I recall you can change all joystick settings "on the fly". Does the joystick work with other things?

Hi!

I just had the same problem and figured it out. Make sure you ASSIGN your joystick axes in the Steem joystick menu. Just click on the left box (it goes white) and move your joystick left. Click on the top box and move your joystick up. Keep going for the other two. Don't forget to assign your fire button!

Hope this helps!

Joystick

Postby koloth » Wed Nov 15, 2006 3:33 am

Yes, I assigned the directions using the joystick and they came up as:

Standard Ports
Port 0 (mouse)

Up = J1Y-

Left = J1X- Right = J1X+

Down = J1Y+

and fire button = J1 But 1

All of which seems reasonable.

Ah, maybe I need to set up Port 1 instead of the mouse!

DUH! :roll: This worked. I should have thought about the ST hardware.

Thanks so much for all your help! :D

Take Care,
Koloth

Nope, its not open source at this time. Perhaps you could use gdb to do a trace and post it to the Steem authors?

I've seldom segfaulted it myself - what were you doing at the time?

Can Catweasel 4 be use with Steem? If not are there any plans in the future for support of Catweasel 4 in Steem? I just bought a Catweasel 4 and I'm awaiting shipment of it. Want to see try Atari ST disks with it on my PC.

Considering the age of these posts, am I to guess STEem is no longer being developed and if so, are any ST emulators still under development?

Just out of interest really..

Thanks

Hi,
Just loaded Steem 3.2 for the first time in a very long time. This time on my main win7 x64 machine.
After the ST desktop appears, I move my mouse and the ST crashes. I see this, and hear a few hundred ST mouse clicks. There is a lot of cazy distortion at the top white area I can't capture to show. Sometimes I think I can see 4 bombs as 2 pixle dashes.
The ST resets and a scroll accross the bottom says something like ST Crash and Reset. I looked in the settings but nothing jumped out as some way to fix this. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid.
Suggestions?
Thanks

Fixed,
My ROM images were bad. Got new ones, all good, now. running 1.62us

Next noob Question; how to get a hard drive on the desktop? I have a directory made with "Disk Manager" in steem. I reboot the "ST" no hard drive on the desktop. I seem to recall Steem up one there automatically. i installed one on the desktop, but that did not work. Do I need to go through the HDDriver install process ... I hope not. I looked for DOC's on this but could not find much for Steem.

You need to create "hard drive" - Disk Menu - Hard Drives - choose some directory for Atari files. Then can copy there from floppy images via Steem.
Of course, will need first to set drive icons on Desktop.
Other, faster way may be using this: http://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php
