I record animations from steem using obs studio on a 10 year old MacBook at 60fps and it’s fine.
Before taking such a drastic round robin style we need to look at your specs and the obs settIngs.
Fraps will bring even the heftiest hardware to to its knees
Hey thanks bud, for the meantime I have found the easy/less acurrate way around it & bought a black magic intensity. I want to capture my old betamax & VHS, & circuit bent AV toys so it's no loss as I can use composite for that, & try HDMI out from my laptop to keep moving for now with my videos.
Hmmm, its interesting you say your capturing Steem on a Macbook, unless u meant Hatari? I didn't know Steem could run on a mac, if so I'd try that out straight away coz my Mac is a superb spec, but I didn't have much luck with Hatari & would feel better using Steem as its an emu I understand a lot better.
I haven't got the spec details in front of me for my other PCs, but one I've tried out on Win7 is an intel pentium 4 which I'd have thought was good enough, but for various reasons I couldn't get OBS to work. It installed, but there was an issue with capturing, it may be due to a graphics card conflict but I'm unsure. Camstudio worked on it, but its not very good software for this.
At the time I moved from that PC as I recall there being a graphics card issue of somekind. Then I tried a laptop running vista (my Dad's laptop, I can't stand vista!) a great spec & handled video well, I could get the specs for these PCs another time which would help. I spent many full days back & forth via a forum called video-help forum & got a lot of detailed advice about virtualdub. I tried customising it with various compressors & settings which I"m fairly new to. I learnt a lot in the process, but after a few entire days went by trying to get a stable enough recording, I realised how much time I've lost whilst I'm not working on my productions to get past this step. So for me at the time I felt there was too much fault finding to go through & chose some hardware for the meantime so I can keep moving with the ideas I have. It would be ideal to screen capture though, absolutely.
My Macbook is the most stable, best computer I have for visuals so if Steem could be run on it that'd be more promising. Never thought it would be though.
