contstant keyboard click and crazy unusable mouse

Postby spiny » Sun May 01, 2016 4:34 pm

Hi All,

something weird has happened to my PC - I can no longer run steem properly - when I boot it, I get the 'key held down' noise and the mouse is sped up to what feels like 1000% so is unusable.

I thought a quick delete of the INI file would fix this, but it hasn't.

changing TOS doesn't help either.

more weirdly, I downloaded the latest SSE version and installed it in a different folder, with a fresh download of some TOS ROMs and I get the same thing.

anybody else seen this and know a fix ? I'm quite confused!

I haven't added any hardware to my pc recently, so I don't think it's a driver issue.

In the unlikely case that anyone else encounters this, a reboot solved the issue :D :D

I rarely reboot my PC, it runs Win7 and I reboot about every six-eight weeks or so, when I remember to install updates. I think some part of DirectX crashed, and needed a reboot to fix.

Update to my update: this issue came back. Ans also appeared on my work PC, then on my laptop ...

So I pondered what they all have in common, and it turns out that 'Synergy' the screen/mouse sharing app seems to do weird stuff to the mouse handler when I run Steem, as if it's using the Windows speed up or something.

Fix is to disable Synergy when Steem-ing :) I'm in Synergys beta crew, so I'll log a bug, just in case this may afect any other emulators.

took a while to work this one out :D

I've sometimes had that constant clicking fault on real hardware & steem, but very rare in both cases, I just put it down to a bug in TOS

yeah, the keyclick happens every now and then on my real hardware :) but this problem also has an unusable mouse - it's as if the mouse is at 100000000dpi - simply not possible to move it anywhere with any degree of control.

Not had the mouse go crazy, but I have noticed sometimes on my STE, its like the mouse button is being pressed like a billion times a second, if I click it, its fine afterwards.

Did you try the 'VM-friendly mouse' SSE option in v3.8.2? Does it make a difference?

https://github.com/symless/synergy/issues/5372

They are probably using the same mechanism for relative mouse movement. Basically set the cursor to the middle of the screen, on next mouse move compute the delta then reset back to middle again. This seems to break using Synergy.

This is Steem's way, unless 'VM-friendly mouse' SSE option is checked, so please have a go with it.
