upper lower cases

Postby DrCoolZic » Sat Sep 25, 2010 6:07 pm

I have a simple question!
with many programs when I need to open a file the file browser open with a name filter specifying extension in lowercase for example C:\LANG\*.prj
As all the files in a directory are returned by Steem as uppercase the browser cant find any matching files for example BIG.PRJ

I have to get back to the browser and change the filter to either *.* or *.PRJ which is a pain.
Any idea on how to avoid this problem so that upper/lower cases both would match
Thanks

mostly depending on the system of the site.
for example if the backend db is a sql server, then searches in the tables are case insensitive.
however if the backend db is an oracle server, then searches in the table are case sensitive.
likewise for the os, most likely nt class os ought to be case insensitive.
the unix class os will be case sensitive.

I am not talking about Web browser! I am talking about running Atari applications under Steem! When it comes to open a file in an application the application open a file selector window that I incorrectly called a file browser which is a windows terminology.
Sorry for the confusion

I sometimes see this happening.
Not sure why it does, may be because using a lower case capable desktop like Jinnee...

Anyway, no way around it because i either do what you do.
or use Kobold to try to change it.

Actually the problem seems to come from the application that put a "lower case filter" like *.prj (this rexample is from the AHCC compiler) and as the desktop returns everything in uppercase the file selector does not see any lower case prj files :(

it's a filesystem thing. AHCC is probably designed to work on a filesystem that supports lower case.

it ought to detect the file system it is working on and then either upper case or lower case the filter string.

Actually I have found that many of the development tools like Interface and others are using lower case letter. I am not familiar with TT and Falcon: do they support lower case in FS?

It's the same basic TOS but higher version... you already know that.
upper & lower case are in the filesystem of Mint / Magic, so it's not specific to the machine type.
