weak sectors track 79 in pasti; copy prot.?manual settings?

Postby snoopy » Tue Apr 13, 2010 12:30 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm just imaging a batch of disks and noticed something strange.
I've got 2 identical disk batches (2 identical Powerpacks).
About half of the disks show the same error in both batches (weak sector error, mostly on track 79).
Is this copy protection? Are the disks double sided and this is not recognized properly by pasti?
How can I solve that?

Thanks for the help.
Cheers, Roloway/Snoopy

edit: I am using Pasti.

Seems like copy protection.
Pasti certainly can detect is floppy double-sided.
I recommend to try ST (MSA) images in emulator. If fails it is 99.9% copy protection.
Then only way of proper imaging is Pasti.

Just tried it in another machine, the drive sounds normal till track 79 S0. There it goes like a "thump", as if it had hit something, tries to read for several seconds and stops with "too many weak sectors". Maybe there is no track 79? I have pasti on auto for every option. should I set something manually?
cheers

Floimg also fails to read track 79. Under normal conditions I'd say, the disks are damaged. But in this case where I have two identical originals from different sources both producing the same error (actually I have 10 different games where this is the case), I'm wondering if this is something else.

I remember Pasti of game Disc (Loriciel). All 10 sectors on track 79 show CRC error - on side A, side B is not formatted. And it is part of protection.
But don't know how to set Pasti to not complain about weak sectors in such cases.

This sounds good: These games are mostly from Loriciel and Infogrames.

Maybe someone else knows how to manually set pasti to finish the dumping?

Someone who had one Powerpack 4 back in the time told me that he really had problems to create a backup of them. He told me of disks being wiped while being copied by an St copy program. Strange.
