Muggies PASTI images

Postby Mug UK » Thu Jun 28, 2007 5:10 pm

I'll keep this first post updated with all the ones I've done (and tested). As a collector I must have (approx) somewhere between 400 & 500 original games :) So don't expect miracles overnight!

So far the list includes:

Arkanoid (Ocean)
Espionage (manual protection)
Frostbyte
Lombard RAC Rally (has got a Rob Northern Trap #1 loader!)
Populous & The Promised Lands (Hit Squad re-release)
Skyblaster (2 disks)
Skyrider (manual protection)
Wanted (2 disks)

June 30th 2007-July 1st

Bounce Out
Boxing Manager
Cap'n Carnage (these three seem to have no on-disk protection after a quick nosey but could be wrong)

Championship Run
Fantasy World Dizzy
Fire & Brimstone (Kixx release)
Tornado Ground Attack (Energize release)

July 2nd 2007

Super Off Road (2 Disks)

----------------------------------------

Not working and need re-imaging :x

Fighter Bomber (reboots almost immediately)
Super Hang On (loads Disk A OK but then doesn't recognise Disk B)

June 30th 2007-July 1st

Spike in Transylvania (straight to desktop)
Chronoquest II (straight to desktop)
Vectorball (keeps rebooting but if memory serves it could be something like a TOS v1.02 incompatibility as the game is that old)

July 2nd

TMNT

Not working at all

Wacky Racers (someone's used UVK on their original and wiped out the bootsector loader!)

My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Working:

Alien Storm
Exile

(Still) not working:

Super Hang On Disk B - still not recognised by the game.
Fighter Bomber - works on the Mega STE off the original disks but just can't read it in to a working PASTI image :(

July 8th

Working:

Creepy (Atlantis) - Atic Atac rip-off! *
Demon Blue (Micro Value)
Fruit Machine Simulator (Codemasters)
Fruit Machine (Byte Back) *
L.E.D. Storm
Rampage (original - not the one given away free with 520ST's)
Ruff & Ready
Skrull (2 Disks)
Skulldiggery (works in Medium & High rez)
Yogi Bear & The Greed Monster

* I'd be very surprised if there's any protection on these disks

July 14th

Division One '92 (Midnight Oil) (no protection - plus instructions encouraged you to save your game onto the master disk!)
Afterburner (2 Disks)
Chuckie Egg
Conqueror
Disc
Head Coach (2 Disks) (no protection and probably same as Division One)
Hellraiser (2 Disks)
Popeye 2

Problems with:

Persian Gulf Inferno - gets to track 17 then Track Error and stops. I can't remember the PASTI commands off top of my head to force it to continue. Guess I got too lazy with use of the GUI version :)

Quiz Show (files are there - but nothing loads on either TOS 1.02 or TOS v1.62)
Zero Gravity (just went straight back to desktop)

July 15th

Leviathan
Metrocross - Does nothing at all .. unless you've got 512MB of RAM, in which case the game works fine.
War Machine
Xevious - Starts, black screen & music is playing but nothing else happens if you have more than 512MB of RAM. Fine on a basic 512MB machine.

Problems with:

Championship Wrestling (Disk read problems - could be my disk as it was one of the first games I ever bought!)

Drum Studio (Holger Gehrman) on a budget re-release version. Get a sync error during the image reading. Will re-do and found out which track this is on.

July 19th, 20th & 21st

Artificial Dreams
Championship Wrestling (Epyx)
Custodian (Smash 16 version)
Deflektor
Empire Strikes Back
European Soccer Challenge
Nebulus
Netherworld
Outlaw (aka Wanted - also done but in original 2 disk form)
Plutos
Predator (1 Disk budget re-release)
Predator (2 Disk original release)
Space Harrier (2 Disks)
Star Wars

Problems with:

Tetris (Mirrorsoft) - could be (as before) my original disk being knackered but get track error when attempting on internal Mega STE drive as well as external drive.
Bionic Commando (files are there but won't boot)
Trailblazer - disk read error
Vixen - picture dislays but then reboots after the menu appears briefly
Bombjack - reckons the disk has file errors
Batman - does nothing at all.
Drumstation - re-did the disk image and this time it worked in Drive B: but still won't work within STEEM :(

I've uploaded the 58 games (not disk images - that's about 65-70) to Marcer's FTP *but* it's in a private area for now. Not ready to release these unto the masses until I've reached about 100 working games.

Re: Muggies PASTI images

Postby Mug UK » Mon Feb 09, 2009 12:41 pm

Forgot about this thread .. must get it updated properly at some point.

At the weekend I did:

Swap (Fox Hits budget release) - works OK
Titan (Fox Hits budget release) - gets as far as the music but once space/fire is pressed, 2 bombs appear. However, on a previous attempt, I found that leaving the music to play through to the end, it works. So not sure if it's the PASTI image or my STEEM set-up.
Pro Soccer 2019 (Vulture Video?) - works but it's an awful 'futuristic' football management game - dull as dishwater and one of the lowest review scores from ST Format!

Now three which didn't work, and considering how old they are, PASTI v0.4 had the same problem with each disk. All three titles were under their original US Gold release packaging and not budget re-releases.

Road Runner
Rolling Thunder
and another one which for some reason I cannot remember 24 hours later!

All three would cause PASTI to either get as far as track 79 and give me three bombs -or- in the case of Road Runner Disk 2, complain about Weak Sectors in the internal floppy drive but then do the same thing as the others when I tried PASTIing it in my external drive.

I then did 99% complete images using the Catweasel MK4 card running Ijor's driver. It read them in OK but failed at Track 79 (as I expected them too).

>Re Roadrunner
That's strange, as I successfully 'pastified' my Roadrunner disks (U.S. Gold original 2 disk release - not budget!) a while back. I don't recall any imaging problems or strange messages anyway.

Just checked my images under STeem and it runs fine under Tos 1.02, 512k.

It could be my disks are just long in the tooth but it seemed odd that the same behaviour occurred on three different US Gold games from the same kind of era.
