Enigma, plus The Lost Patrol

Postby daveskillin » Sun Feb 05, 2006 11:54 am

Hello all,

I've just discovered the forum, so I thought I'd say hi. I noticed that Enigma posted here about 18 months ago; don't know if he'll ever show up again, but I wanted to say thanks for cracking Premier Manager 2 for me all those years ago. Shame you never finished your marathon attempt to re-pack every menu disk ever made, but it was a valiant attempt ;-)

On another note, does anyone have a copy of The Lost Patrol that they've played all the way through? I've got two different copies, both cracked by The Replicants, and both are guaranteed to crash within about half an hour of play. I bought the original back in the day (99p from Boots, bargain) and it wasn't THAT buggy! Just curious if they're bad cracks or if it's an emulator thing.

Many thanks!

Dave.

I think he was really, really bored. Speedpacker III was pretty awesome, but still...

Nah, he said he was trying to save on disks at the time. If only he'd know to wait ten years and he'd have been able to fit them all onto a single disc!

Lost Patrol

Yo!

I remember I bought an original of The Lost Patrol because I was annoyed with the Replicunts version crashing all the time...
Though the original was crashing quite often (at about the same place) as well. So I could never really get into the game that much.
IIRC, screen stays black somewhere around the first hill.
And then nothing.

Cheers.

Mmm...sucks. Maybe my memory's getting fuzzy...shame, it's a cool game.

BTW, loved your disks back in the old days, my man! :D

Hello all,

I just re-played one of the Replicants versions of The Lost Patrol right through to the end. Any crashes seemed to be due to the game rather than a bad crack, so I think it's working. It's the version with the plain-text bootsector loader, if anyone's interested. I've had two copies (from two different sources) of the version with the spinny Replicants logo on the menu and both crash when loading the sub-games, so I'd recommend giving it a wide berth.

Anyway, enough about games that nobody gives a bugger about

Woah!
That is the version I was trying too.
Well... maybe I should have a shot at it again one day.
What's the ending like? Any nice bonus sequences?

Cheers.

Not really! When you reach Du Hoc, you get this picture:

Then, you get a little 4-frame animation of a fluttering US flag and a message scrolling up the screen:

Kinda standard "is that it?" computer game ending :-(
