Never seen anyone of them yet. I'm quite astonished to see they seem not to have used ripped stuff (atleast not as far as I could check out yet)

Technical quality is mid standard, not coming near the big 3 of Atari ST menu disk teams.

simonsunnyboy: the menus aren't so rare ;) They were imaged by Lee Marsh back in 2002 and he uploaded them on a FTP (don't remember which one, maybe Phantom's FTP or his own FTP).

But you're right: this crew was totally unknown before Lee uploaded the disks. At least I never found any greetings or infos about The Midland Boyz in other intros or e-zines...

Never ever heard of that group. Nice find! Who are they? They did many menus for such an "unknown" group.

..... I am stunned ......

Oh my, what a blast from the past this page is.... Sorry let me introduce myself

I am The Nameless One (TNO) of the Former Midland Boyz ST CD Crew and to be honest, I didn't think any of these menu's still existed, let alone be talked about on various ST Sites, and as I stated, I'm quite stunned at the moment. An old friend posted me this page and a Google search page on the group. It's been over 20 years since we made these disks.....

Right enough of the babble

About the group

We were composed of myself and my best mates back in 1991 and we decided to make our own "Compilation" disks, just like our hero's at the time, Pompey Pirates, The Medway Boys and Automation. We just started doing it for fun and to learn how to code in 68000 MC. It was good fun at the time :)

At the start we used to hack n BADLY compress our own games, every now and again we "Borrowed" someone elses crack but most of the time it was our own collections of ST Original Games. We got a lot better after menu 18 as some of the code we got our hands on make the menu design's a lot better and the cracks were 100%-ish and we got compression under control thanks to Atomic 3.5 and Firehawks Speed Packer 3

We never started to be a household name like Pompey's or Automation and the distribution area was VERY Limited, hence why we were not that well known.

Based in Leicestershire (Midlands) we made 63 floppies worth of menu's with several "Menu 19 Part X" menu's for games that didn't quite fit the norm.
Unfortunately, I lost my entire ST Collection in a house fire many years ago and thought these menu's were lost in the eather..
To find several of them online to download was mind-blowing !

The menu I liked the most though was MENU 50 as it contained a ReMapped "Bubble Bobble" designed by us, If anyone has the TMB "Obsession" disks Please Post them !!!

We were mainly 3 people, myself TNO, Bad Boy T and Blackmaiden of Jupiter 9T (Another unknown group) and several game suppliers including Captain Chaos, Tezza and Dwain Dibbly

2 of us understood code, which helped a lot, and i remember that menu 50 was written over a few months as the Bubble Bobble remap was a nightmare !

Seriously, folks, if any one else has ANY of the missing menu's , please get em uploaded :)

Who ever originally uploaded these where ever, thank you very much.

All the best to all you ST Nuts out there and to MUG UK for running this fantastic site
Greetings fly out to all the best and worst of the ST Crowd - Alien You were the boss !!!
(Shame I ain't got a HTML Scroller lol)

Oh and just a heads up, all the available menu's are on TheISOZone.com, which I just found out about !!!!

Seriously folks, you have made my day

The Nameless One signing Off

WRAP!

Not quite true, I'm just the person with the most posts due to the admin duties of the last <insert long time> years on here :)

Welcome aboard though! Pity you lost everything in the fire, as Brume is always after more for his www.stonish.net site :)
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk
