Street Fighter 2 - NonCommercial Version As Per Atari Legend

Postby sut » Mon Aug 02, 2004 10:13 pm

Gazing through Atari Legend I saw this monochrome STE version of Street Fighter 2. Really want to play this to see if they fixed the play problems on the commercial release.
So if anybody has this game would really appreciate it being uploaded.

It's an unfinished piece by Patrice Mandin - http://membres.lycos.fr/pmandin/index.p ... oteurs#sf2

Hi sut,
The game can be downloaded from the website of the author:

This is just a 'preview' game, since it has never been finished. But it's far better than the game on ST.

Thanks for the link.

definitely an improvement over the commercial release, more smooth and animated better, hope this project continues.

Also the Doom version on Falcon looks amazing in the screenshot

Well if stupid assholes like US Gold had any kind of quality control they would have made sure the Amiga specific version was coded FIRST, that way the blitter and sample sound routines could easily be transferred to the Atari STE version and a cut down version made for the Atari STFM.

Unfortunately the Amiga version was a port of the original 68000 soft sprite/soft scroll routines and the game is just a crock of poo on both the STE and Amiga, must have been funny for spotty twats with Nintendo poo to laugh at us. I am absolutely glad piracy was rife on the ST and Amiga, the software houses screwed us over all the time on STE and Amiga side

In fact I would bet money that I could write a better version of Street Fighter 2 in Blitz Basic on an Amiga :)

Amiga Blitter and Audio code could not easily be ported down to the STE. The register interfaces are completely different, just ask Leonard what efforts are needed to emulate the Paula on the STE.

Amiga and ST(e) Blitter are entirely different devices as well. Even a non-coder will easily see the difference by glancing a coding tutorial for each of the chips.
