Battlezone & Super Breakout (STX, SCP or KF)

Postby kodak80 » Wed Jul 15, 2015 12:32 am

Does anyone have STX, SCP or Kryoflux dumps of these 2 Atari games? I have both games but the disks are non-working so I am looking for dumps of these disks.

The Battlezone version on Atarimania is an ST which may not be an original version but I would prefer to get an STX, SCP or Kryoflux version of this and the Super Breakout disks. :D

That would be great if you have. :)

They are 2 seperate games. Hopefully you have one or both of them.

The boxes are in my sons room, I have a whole stack of these games in there. He's asleep now but I will drag them out tomorrow. Pretty sure I have 2 or even 3 copies of some so I should be able to muster a working copy.

Too damned busy on the weekend. I have fall back copies so finger crossing shouldn't be necessary.

I believe these Atari games were not copy protected. I know Joust, Moon Patrol and Crystal Castles were not...

Both of these games have protection on track 79, side 0:

Super Breakout AUFIT Protection analysis:
T79.0 IDG Invalid Data into GAP
T79.0-S9 DCE DATA CRC Error
T79.0-S9 FZS Fuzzy Sector
T79.0-S9 SBV Sector Bit-rate Variation

Battlezone AUFIT Protection analysis:
T79.0-S9 DCE DATA CRC Error
T79.0-S9 FZS Fuzzy Sector
T79.0-S9 SBV Sector Bit-rate Variation

If want to be sure about copy protection in SW, you need to trace that SW. What is on floppy disk is not sure proof that it will be actually checked.
Really not that hard to test with Steem Debugger.
Would be surprise to see copy protection in this titles.

Dumps are all here:

The only way we were able to copy these disks was to use my Kryoflux/SCP flux boards to dump the disk contents. Atari030 did try copying them for me but this did not work.

Thanks. Copy protected with a weak sector indeed. And yes, it is checked by the software, in both cases.

Atari USA titles are usually not copy protected. And definitely the main US version of Battlezone is not. But these seem to be Uk (re)releases.

I checked it. There is no sector #3 in track 79 - and it is tested with XBIOS 8 calls - not some advanced protection and easy to override.
But really no sense to bother, since it is just same version as original (US) release, works in color and mono too, as org. In case of Battlezone it was additionally single file, so much easier to use.
Best is to send those STX images to Atarimania, together with cover scans, so they can add them there, because is good to have all releases preserved. Who wants to play this actually may be fine with nonprotected release, or God forgive me, with some spiced nefarioucy :D

Btw. I prefer myself this Super Break-Out:
http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st ... 29463.html

It's free, has about all possible bonuses, and works in larger resolution (mono). I think the author is this one:

I have uploaded Battlezone to Atarimania's FTP. Hadn't realised that the UK version was missing. Super Breakout is already available on Atarimania.
