Anyone Recommend any PD/SHAREWARE games ?

Postby sut » Wed Apr 07, 2004 5:48 pm

Im currently making a ST collection of my favourite and/or recommended games from other people and magazine reviews. Looking at PD/SHAREWARE games most seem either crap clones of other games or just crap. I know there are exceptions like the Grandad games but I would like any recommendations as I dont want to sit and play through them all. Cheers

The PD games I liked the most are:-

Action Bughunt (very fun game based on aliens)
Alien Blast! (STE/Falcon only, maybe not PD?)
Astrodia
Chaos (my fav game on the Spectum but with very cool sampled sounds)
Cybernetix
Dynabusters
Glass Buttock of Tharg
Oxyd
Starball

Now, Roger is certainly the best Freeware game released for the STE. Great gameplay!

Also check out Tiles Osmosis. Very nice too, has given me many hours of fun so far.

Other then that... well I remember Snacman being a real fun game. I think it came on a ST Format cover disk, after issue 80 or somthing.

Nothing other springs to mind at the moment.

I hadn't tried Crapman before so I found it and a bunch of great programs on this page:

I've always enjoyed Dave Muncie's arcade ports and this site had Volume 1 of his complied work.

PD/ShareWare games

Postby Apshai Guy » Sat Apr 17, 2004 4:09 am

Try these gems:

- SquareOff (or any of the Dave Munsie games...But this is one of my faves)
- HacMan II
- Hurry!
- Boing!
- Avecta
- Schoolyard Slaughter (it's a guilty pleasure  )
- Jeopardy and Triples (My uncle wrote these two game in the early nineties...They're very good)
- Who Stole the Peanut Butter
- V-Squared

Ahh, I know there's plenty of others, but these are all that come to mind right now... Some of those are probably hard to come by on the 'net, so if you want me to upload them, let me know.

If you don't mind that those are for s/w monitor:

- MacPan (one of the best Pacman clones for s/w monitor)
- Caveminer
- Eiskalt
- Tuzzle
- Huang Shi
- Gerhild's Challenge
- Thriller
- Gulp
- Vector Invasion
- Bouncing Boubles
- Megaroids (the ultimate asteroids clone)

Most are in german and I know them from the ST Computer PD series.

For color monitors,
Cybernetix and Starball come to mind.

Best PD Games?

Postby bjjones37 » Fri Jul 30, 2004 2:30 pm

You cannot leave out Eamon and it's adventures, and I thought DGDB was pretty good. How about Star Battle, and Orions Run, or ZXYM?

Postby Adrenalin » Fri Jul 30, 2004 4:27 pm

Hi

You should check out the Neon Lights PD/Shareware discs that are on Lee's FTP.

TCK had impeccable taste is compiling his releases, and they contain some great PD/Shareware games.

Cheers,

Does anyone remember one called Domain? I have never forgotten it because of it's incredibly irritating music... :)

Anything by Dave Munsie. That guy made some amazing ST games. Best Berzerk game I've ever played at home.

Oh, I have all of his games. I misunderstood the thread, I didn't know it was for requests. :)

In that case, I need House of the Rising Sun, and not in disk format.
