FS: Mega ST keyboard coiled cable, new production

Postby mpattonm » Tue Aug 22, 2017 3:26 pm

I finally got some time to produce some few units of coiled cable for Mega ST keyboards, to see whether there would be a real demand.
Standard cable lenght is 60 cm, each section is 20cm. Lenght of straight sections can however be customized anywhere from 5 to 35 cm. Coil outer diameter is 2,1cm. Inner core diameter 0,21mm2 for reliable data transfer and low power loss.
Currently only dark gray color version is available, as pictured below.
This is round, solid, sturdy cable, it is nothing like cheap phone receiver cable you can buy elsewhere for 5 USD.
Obviously, assembled with RJ11 (6p4c) connectors on both ends.

Price is 12 EUR / 13,5 USD Please send me a PM if you are interested.

At the moment only few pieces are available for sale. If there is a demand, I will make next batch in a near future.

Sorry; The connectors are not RJ12 6p6c?
I think Atari uses the 6 contacts, correct me if I'm wrong.

Pin 1,2 and 5,6 share the same signals (+5VDC and GND respectively) so 6 positions with 4 contacts should be sufficient.

Then it would be "6p4c", and I suppose the arrangement of those 4 contacts distributed among the 6 is standard, or will not serve any cable.
However, the RJ11 only has 4 pins and the RJ12 6 pins; It is right?

The only difference between a RJ11 connector and a RJ12 connector is that the RJ11 is 6p4c and RJ12 is 6p6c.

I have seen RJ11 connectors with only 4 pins. That's the question that I have.

Its of course assembed with correct 6p4c RJ11. What you are probably reffering to (4p4c) is RJ10, not RJ11.
This could perhaps help :

An RJ11 connector has 6 positions but only 4 of them are used, so yes, a female RJ11 connector would only have 4 pins.

I have two mega ste keyboards and both do not have a clip on the keyboard side! The cable goes into the keyboard case and should not be able to just connect something else...

Is this normal? Are there different types of keyboards for the Mega series?

I'm pretty sure that only the Mega ST keyboards have cables with connectors on both ends. On the Mega STe and TT keyboards the cable is not detachable on the keyboard side.

If this is the case, then the title should somehow be corrected...
In anyway, if I used an RJ11 female /female connector I believe I could use it as an extension to the existing cabl of the keyboard, is it correct?

I will correct the title ASAP. I was under false impression, that MegaSTE/TT keyboards are equipped with RJ12 too.

For anyone interested, I have light gray version in the making, with colied section 30cm long. If that turns out well I will have a look at STE/TT variant as well

Great.
I believe it won't be difficult for you to find the connector that is needed inside the keyboard and prepare ready- to-use cables for Mega STEs and TTs.
Definitely I will be interested in these too...
