.sndh playback on Android devices?

Postby STEdawg » Sun Apr 01, 2012 4:33 pm

Does anyone know of a way to play .sndh files on an android device? I've tried various app's with zero success. Thanks for any help.

DroidSound is what I use.

I just downloaded the SNDH archive via the phone, moved it into the MODS folder that DroidSound uses and it recognises the file. You can also associate all .ZIP files to be handled by DroidSound in future but that's not recommended.

You'll need to rescan the database if you don't associate .ZIP files with DroidSound.

In general it plays almost everything SNDH-wise that I've thrown at it but some of the really technical tunes (SID + STE drums) it won't play back.

There's also a v1.2 beta on their homepage: http://swimsuitboys.com/droidsound/
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Here's the latest beta playing some of Marcer's chip tunes straight from the latest SNDH collection:

However, as mentioned above, it either won't play or only plays the chip elements of these tunes:

(the two with STE only get the chip music parts played but no DMA samples, the others don't play at all)

I sent the link to this page to the developers so, assuming they've got the time, they can improve the SNDH replay.

I tried this but it doesn't seem to want to list any files inside the directory on my phone :(
I can browse all the folders but there are no tunes listed.

I had a problem after rebooting my phone into an early version of Ice Cream Sandwich in that I re-downloaded the C64 Music file (50MB zip) and it wouldn't scan the files. Only after I looked at the file did I see that it was a .ZIP within .ZIP file. Then it rescanned it OK?

For the SNDH archive, I just downloaded it with my phone directly from the website and did a rescan and it was recognised straight away?

I've had no problems with the c64 stuff. It's the snhd which isn't working for me. I'll try again today.

Still the same I'm afraid. I didn't open the zip file from the file manager this time. I moved the zip file into the /mods/ dir and did a rescan. It works for everything except the sound archive. My phone is a Galaxy Nexus hence the different file path.

Aha. Got it working. :) I had to tick "do not scan unknown file extensions" in the settings :)

Edit: Spoke too soon. Although the songs are now all listed they're marked unknown and won't play :(

Edit: It looks like the app isn't registering .sndh support. I can't open a single .sndh file extracted into the downloads folder.
It looks like a bug.

These are my settings Frank.

The only thing I can suggest is.uninstalling - clear the cache first - then reinstall and the full scan it does should pick up all the files.

Can you open a single .sndh file downloaded into a directory?

Mine won't open extracted .sndh files. I'll try a reinstall. I've reported it to the app author anyway.

Just the same after a reinstall. Oh well. I'll see what the app author says. Maybe I'll have more luck when I get an android tablet at some point :)

New preview released due to author getting themselves an Android 4.0-based phone.

I was unable to get it to recognize unpacked sndh files - it scanned all the directories but listed none. However, as soon as I compressed some and moved over the .zip it worked just fine.

Running the latest beta on ICS now, will test it out more tomorrow.

I've just picked up the new update on the play store. It works fine now :)

Maybe my bug report did some good!

With the latest beta I don't need to songs to be in zip files any longer either. Love it :)

Do you know if there is a reason why Droidsound-E is no more available on Google play ?
