Ha - I didn't know that - thanks for the heads-up! :)

christos wrote:That depends on how you consider the future. For example if time is a dimension like all the others than you can move in both direction and it exists just like up or down, left or right, fordwards or backwards, the future already exists we are just following the slow path..

Then it is called present not future because future is somewhere you have not been!!

christos wrote:An alternative is that the future is being created in any given moment so you can only move forward into it.

This is more like it.

christos wrote:The third option is the one of the many worlds, everything can be changed by a time traveller and all paradoxes are resolved by the fact that each movement in time is also a movement between universes as the many world interpretation states.

And this is a hollywood movie.... frankly I rather watch Iron Man II.

Actually it's the most plausible way to avoid paradoxes. I think Michio Kaku discusses it in a lot ways. I personally don't think time travel is possible unless there's a natural law that prevents paradoxes. For example you go back, you try to kill your grandfather and all your efforts are in vain because something happens that prevents it.

Much like what the movie Time machine.... when he tries to stop the murder of his fiancee...

 somewhere on the web it mentions that time travel is possible by UFO.... but it's distortion of time rather then go back in time, where the UFO travel vast distances in short time.

The amount of "time" that passes for each item of matter depends on the speed of said matter. Apparently GPS satellites internal atomic clocks "run" at a different speed to the master clock on earth due to the speed difference.
If you had a twin and your twin went on a spaceship ride round trip around to Pluto and back he (she) would have aged at a different rate to you! Does this mean that time travel is possible?
Another way is the idea (and it is just that at the moment!) of bending space-time, to form the so called wormhole. This would act as a short-cut to another part of space-time, and therefore possible time travel...

Of course if time is infinite then the number of universes could also be infinite...

Exactly, life is much simpler without quantum mechanics. Personally and philosophically speaking I am all for the Copenhagen interpretation. Well if time travel is possible then where are the time travellers (Fermi paradox for time travel)?

Oh that's what they mean when they say that Amiga was a machine of the future!

Well, I was going to say that you don't see them because they are in the future and present; which all of us are at present.

But it seem the reason is because I do not visit the Amiga user boards.... makes sense...

on a more serious note, I'm pretty sure if time travel was possible, something like Prime Directive would be issued in effect too, so that nobody messes up the time line ... that may be a reason why we never encounter time travelers :coffe:
