What does your nickname mean?

Postby Brume » Mon Jul 14, 2003 1:34 pm

Well, some people asked me over the years why I chose Brume as a nickname.
I must admit I'm really curious (but you probably already know it): could we start a topic about nicknames here? What does your alias mean? I'm sure you'd have some awesome stories about it, but please tell us the truth ;)

------------

Here is the explanation about mine:
- it uses letters from my real name (BRUno MathiEu)
- it's the french title of a book by Stephen King that I like very much (original title: Skeleton Crew)
- it means thick, fog in french

old or new? :)

Postby lotek_style » Mon Jul 14, 2003 2:12 pm

Hi Brume...

well should I tell MC Laser or LOTEK STYLE? :) I will do the new one I think... well

"lo tek" = low technology

"style" = style :)

The "lo tek" are some kind of underground organisation in William Gibson's book "Johnny Mnemonic"... in the movie version a guy called
T-Bone (played by ICE-T) is saying "Lotek Style". BANG! Got my name then... must be in 1998.
lotek style / the sirius cybernetics corporation

About my nick:

I took that name from an act called Doctor Bob Gordon shops hot dogs from Boston, by the argentinean music / comedy group Les Luthiers. It's a foxtrot performed with the strange instruments they made.

As you can see, it's just a stupid nickname...

MoodST if comments needed :D comes from how I felt on the day I decided to involve a bit in the Atari Internet community.

Mood: Don't have any Webster / Collins or Harraps dictionary but most of you already know the meaning.

ST: for Atari ST.

As I said, not much to say about that name. I should add, that after 4 years wearing that pseudo I always feel in an ST Mood everyday.

Well, as you've probably figured out by looking at my avatar my nick is derived from one of the coolest songs ever written. The Trooper by Iron Maiden.

So why did I pick it? It must have been back in 1991-92 when I was really caught up in the whole BBS scene. I was going to be appointed CoSysop of a BBS here in Sweden and the guy running the board asked me what my nick was, I looked around my room and my eyes fell on a poster of the cover for the single "The Trooper" and I replied "The Trooper"

That's my cheesy story for you :P

Cheers!

well it's very glok what i write here....

well.. my interpretation of gloky is this...

glauque is the french word for murky or squalid...
the first means kind of milky/dirty or muddy (hence green) the second is rather abstract and means that you can't look behind it because it's not transparant..

so reading the story about the baby that bit him i guess that gloky wants to tell us with his name that he is often an introvert or at least he keeps distance to others due to bad experience..

well it's up to gloky to correct me :)

btw my nick is nothing fancy.. it's simply my initials which i do not want to reveal right now... (still looking for a job :) and i don't want to be considered a professional hacker who seeks to destroy potential employers

cheers

I once started as Heavy G of TAB. At that time Heavy D was kewl!
So not able of thinking up something else i used it for a while.

Later I liked Hardcore/Gabber house and used HardHead for a while.
Hey i'm dutch and had no idea that it could mean something else in english/merican slang. Some people gave me rather strange attention on the i-net when using that nick

When i was down (love problems, no one understanding me.. loosing friends etc etc) I changed my nick to Ayreon. Ayreon is the main character in a rock opera by Ayreon. He's a blind minstrell during the dark ages (not very original story) He gets to see the future.. signs about it. People find him strange. He's misunderstood, cussed and spit at and finally dies by Merlins hand. I felt related to that character. and i never really changed it since. Although you can find me on some online games as Lethal _Vomit.

Got the idea for that during my army days, when my seargent was too drunk to do the field run and puked all over an ants nest. The vomit proved to be very lethal for the ants :D

Well thats my story in a nutshell

Nothing elaborate behind Batman I'm afraid, couldn't come up with anything else and Batman sprung to mind.
