Yes, the PSU has to come out before you continue the battle with the metal screening shield. Remove the metal cover that is on top of it. It then comes out as a module (the metal bit as well as the PCB all comes out as one unit) so as long as you don't touch any of the mains side components, you're be fine. The metal plate it is mounted on means most of the underside of the PCB is covered.
