OK, i have been utterly disappointed by the ST version of Outrun myself and couldn't imagine someone would have enjoyed it.

Call me easily pleased then. :-P I did prefer Outrun Europa over Outrun mind. As for racing games I think Lotus III tops them all.

Hmm Lotus III always had for me the fault that often I had the distinct feeling I was driving backwards instead of forwards. That effect is pretty annoying.

Otherwise it is quite a likable game.

It's not the best version of Outrun, but it's the one I grew up with and I've always had a lot of fun with it. The alternating music between Splash Wave and Magical Sound Shower is also a nice touch.

One of the first ST games I ever played was Outrun, on my old mate Danny's STFM. The choice was between that, Vixen (only really notable for the sexy intro screen, at least for us 11-13 year old boys), Carrier Command, Stargoose and a few broken menus. Oh and STOS, I found the disk and booted it up, then wrote a program that asks for your age in years and tells you (inaccurately) how many days old you are. Danny was unimpressed, but I was hooked from then on, and started programming on my C64 at home before getting an STFM and GFA Basic about a year later.

Yeah Outrun wasn't great, but I was never a huge fan of driving games on the ST, except for Vroom and the amazing Microprose Grand Prix. And maybe another one called Fast Lane... but the music in Outrun was lovely.

Nice! I love to see symbol tables/labels left in. Wish they'd done it more often :)

Luckily the first ST car/driving/racing game i played was Buggy Boy, not a bad first experience. ;)

simonsunnyboy wrote:Hmm Lotus III always had for me the fault that often I had the distinct feeling I was driving backwards instead of forwards. That effect is pretty annoying.

Indeed true, i also experienced this feeling over some road patterns of the game, the framerate probably matching a simple two colours alternation at max car speed.

ST game with best car driving speed feeling is Vroom for me, no other matched it.

I always seemed to prefer Lotus 1, don't know why spent a bit of time on that one.. I think it may be the way they introduced the 'full screen' in later versions, the added top doesn't really help the movement of the game, as for the most part it's static.

Vroom is hard to fault, there were another couple of 'vector' racers HoverSprint and Stunt Car Racer... Psyborg!

seem to remember enjoying Powerdrift but how or why I'm not sure! lol Enduro Racer was good, Eliminator very good, (really miss the inventive games like that!)

Vroom is brilliant. Lotus 1 was one of the first driving games I played. Loved it to begin with and I am still fond of it but enjoyed the latter games in the series because of the greater detail in weather conditions and variety of tracks.

Talking about vector racers, anyone remember S.t.u.n. Runner?

Heh, yeah. Tried it couple of weeks ago. Boosted Steem to 28Mhz and suddenly I found enjoying the game quite a lot ;)

Being a racing games nut myself when talking about vector racers let's not forget Hard Drivin' I & II. Much better games than what their reputation is. Once you learn the mouse steering it's top quality stuff. And still almost one of a kind racers for ST.

Loved S.T.U.N. Runner in the Arcade, on the lynx, perhaps I should try again with it on the ST? there's a DBUG fix iirc?! Had a go on the PS2 version again recently.. as close to the arcade it is, it's just not as tight as the Lynx version

No Second Prize! easy winner there!

Have you tried Race Drivin' the frame rate is significantly improved, though this might be at the cost of smoothness.

I suppose there is room for more racers in this style, obviously worked well in some cases.

My first post here, my dad just dropped off the old Stfm with monitor. Still works after being shelved for 15 years :)

1) Civilisation - remember games taking weeks because of disk loading!
2) Tower of Babel - Amazed this game has been mentioned here and there hasn't been a remake. A hidden gem?
3) Supercars 2 - we always played 2 player games only with the cheat names enabled for crazy weapons!
4) Double Dragon - Again good 2 player coop memories.
5) Knights of the Sky - Fun ww1 flight campaign.
6) Spy vs Spy Series - Silly 2 player fun trying to mangle the opponent.
7) Mad Professor Moriarty - die and it shows a clip 'You are in the loony bin' lol
8 ) Venus the Flytrap - Great platformer and loved the intro.
9) Heroquest - 3 player fun (epic music), we got the expansions too. Space Crusade wasn't as good.
10) Wold League Soccer Manager - Freeware game, amazingly hard to do well and you only could play one player in your team. Really good stats, funny team names and digitised speech. Enjoyed Kick Off and Sensible Soccer but this is great.

Others:
Gauntlet 2 - Red Warrior has entry repulsiveness or something lol.
Stargoose - Great music and fun to play, my dad would man the alt buttons for the missiles.
Rick Dangerous Series - Never completed any of them but fun to try!
Interphase - Really odd concept of evading security and traps, but interesting.
Resolution 101 - Fight drug lords in hover cars, how cool.
Megalomania - The factory's been destroyed!
Armour Gedden - Sweet intro, and fun with telepods.
Lure of the Temptress - Great RPG, might play it again soon.

Aouch!!

It's a difficult choice but: without order

1 - Civilization (very very long game with incredible loading beyond the end of the game, but we can read a book at same time, i love that)
2 - Lemmings (big smash, and after there are Push Over with the ant and dominoes)
3 - Indiana Jones and the last Crusade (aventure, not arcade) - Three years (with pause) for finish him.
4 - Operation Stealth (It's my favorite poin't n'click of all time and all supports). All is perfect in this game.
5 - Vroom (good sensation and playable at two)
6 - Hero Quest & Space Crusade(nice, very nice) - don't worry i don't forget Cadaver
7 - Xenon 1 and 2 (i know i cheat) - Xenon 1 for nostalgie and Xenon 2 for the pure game.
8- Rick Dangerous (Ooooouuuiinnaahhh!!!! Unforgettable, i finish him one time without cheat) - I love Rick 2 too and i have always Rick 2 in his original edition with the box and BD)
9- Speedball 2 (Great game, and after i remember of Rollerball (rare game)
10 - Joust (for this unlimited game)

the winner for me is pretty easy

1) Volfied- Great graphics and sound coupled with incredibly addictive gameplay, one of the few games its almost as much fun to watch being played as playing yourself

After the number 1 spot it gets much more difficult so here are some favourites in no particular order

Turrican 2
Bloodmoney
Dynablaster
Civilisation
SWIV
Gauntlet II
Populous II
Realms
Toki
F1 Domark (Vroom reskinned with 2 players on 1 screen)
I cant help it if I'm often in doubt but never in the wrong.

Old favorites with lot of replayability:
1. Megaroids (on mono monitor) & Bellum (on color monitor)
2. Starball
3. Gomoku & Cinko (mono and color versions of Renju, latter one by Antic Software)
4. Crapman & Hacman (pacman games)
5. Super Breakout (on mono monitor)

Favorite PowerPack disks:
1. nebulus/pacmania/eliminator
2. bombuzal/bombjack/xenon

Favorite vector games:
1. Conqueror (tanks)
2. Starglider I (space)
3. Interphase (the matrix ;))
4. Tower of Babel (puzzle)
5. Rotox
6. Hunter
7. Virus
(Never tried Sentinel)

Others:
1. Vroom

Later Falcon/STE favorites on emulator:
