Atari 8 bit emulator for the ST

Postby khooke » Sat Dec 31, 2016 6:12 pm

Is there an atari 8 bit emulator for the ST? I've searched but keep finding ST emulators instead.

Thanks!

ST XFormer, I see a copy at
http://www.umich.edu/~archive/atari/Emu ... txf255.lzh

Never used it, don't know its status.

That's really cool, I'll try this also - Thanks!
I know very little of the 8Bit Ataris so I'll be interested to get this running. I expect it'll need ROMs... Should be fun this :)

I had it before... It's good for running Atari BASIC programs but way too slow for games. I used it to make some cool screens that I then put in DEGAS using a screen cap program.

I haven't found a game that's playable yet, so yeah, no quite what I was hoping. I did manage to convert a few ATR disk images to XFD format, but they'd start to boot and I'd get an initial loading screen, but then it appeared to hang or was just running so slow I didn't get anywhere. Oh well, worth a try. Maybe time to buy a real 800XL :D

Does that apply to accelerated ST's as well? Thanks.

That's about the results I recall, back when I tried it out on my Mega STe. Granted thinking back on it, I can't remember how the hell I got any of the software over to the ST, but I remember trying it at some point.

This is something that I think could have helped with the ST / Amiga, if they'd had working emulators for yesteryear's systems. Still irritated they dropped all backward support on the PS4.

I hear that. Just got a PS4 for my 14 year old daughter this Christmas. We were
really disappointed when we couldn't play Shadow of the Colossus on it. :(

The only 'full' Atari XL emulator for the ST family was Petr Stehliks one, which needs CT60 class hardware to run at or better than full speed. He stated it got to 40 percent with an Afterburner card.

This was portable code running on a number of platforms so assume not optimised.
