If i remember well, the game had digi sound and quick 50fps/1 Vbl graphics!!!
Impressive detail : Try to move the mouse up and then, a second layer status screen is dragged up ( 50fps) simultaneously without any slowdowns!
Brilliant sample of code!!!

Frame rate is very easy to check in Steem: when it is stopped and you right-click once on the play button, only one frame will run.
(with low Slow Motion speed in options).

So I just checked Violator, which seems to run in Steem (see above), and it's not real 1VBL.
EDIT Warp is 1vbl, but it rarely works in Steem, it's a TODO for me...

Warp works in Steem. Of course not original. But I'm so much sure that crackers did not change fps :lol:

THREAD NECROMANCY! (and not me for once!) :D : What about Star Ray? Sure that was 50fps/ or even 60 if you pressed a function key to go into 60hz mode. Whether it was true 1vbl refresh is another matter though.

The Automation crack of Warp seems to work every time in Steem 3.9.3beta, so maybe the STX dump is trouble, or Steem still has trouble with the protection.

Which Pasti images are you using? What's exactly the problem? I thought the problem with Warp was fixed long ago.

In Steem SSE it works or something random happens: bad display, load fail, crash...
According to the second link, the images are good and work in Hatari.
Like I said, it's a TODO for me.

If I remember correct, Warp has problems in Steem because of exception stackframe emulation. It happens at early stage of loading, right after boot.

It works ok for me, booted a handful times without problems. Did you try a recent Pasti dll? Which configuration doesn't work?

and not to forget. in my youth a ex girl called me.. mr pacman for many years.. then some years la8r I met her on the pub.. and I asked why she called me that, since she loved gamin too at the time.. her answer:

Using the last pasti.dll, of course, but I think now it's an ACIA/6301 problem appearing with the original disk processing timing rather than a wrong image. The protection itself passes.
If you try without SSE option 'C1', it will fail all the time on the original but not on the Auto version.

If you try without SSE option 'C1', it will fail all the time on the original but not on the Auto version.

The protection uses the ikbd interrupt to decode sectors as they are read "on the fly" : it activates the ikbd command "joystick monitoring", which will call ikbd interrupt every 1/100 sec to decode sectors. If the emulation is not accurate regarding IKDB emulation during this phase, protection will fail (I had to improve a few ikbd commands in Hatari in 2014 to handle this funny one :) )

Thx, that's interesting. Didn't see that of course. :) I'm not very good at reading ST programs unfortunately.
It's more involved than the work of "protection lamers" (see Was Not Was' intro).
With option 'C1', IKBD emu is low level, so it's "all or nothing", no special treatment for a command, but some ACIA transmission parameters may be adjusted.

EDIT: for the record, there was a bug in the IKBD emu (not really ACIA) for this case
