nukebloodaxe wrote:Excellent job Chris the shop is looking really nice. I did run into a problem though, detailed below [I hope it's okay to do store debug in this thread.]

I've tried to do a purchase, of one new-type PSU unit, however after going through all the steps [including payment portal] I eventually hit Harry the Hamster and a wait message. From the no confirmation in email, plus no apparent subtraction from store, nor from credit card, I'd say something tripped up on the very last step. I'm also fine with doing this as many times as required until everything is going fine; without charging the card for non-purchases, of course.

Note: My current thought on the problem would be that the payment portal conveys a confirmation to the main site, which is where things possibly went wrong.

I'm just doing some updates, maybe I broke something just.. I will check..

Store back up :)

Typical checkout script time seems to be about 3 seconds. Though can take about 10 seconds sometimes. Harry will show a number which is bytes received during checkout which might be useful... Mostly the pause is down to the emails being sent, so source and destination speeds could effect script running times.. anyway.. no big deal..

I've removed the billing address box.. its not actually needed. It was to verify the credit card, but thats done in the stripe payment box anyway.. Layout of the address box has changed, also after fighting firefox for almost 2 hours , I gave up and just made the boxes more "simple" so formatting doesn't get messed up so much across browsers.

The shipping address boxes should now allow proper input of those "special characters", but preferable to always use english address/letterings.

Also added in error checking for emails being sent. Should someone have a invalid email address, or the email failed to go though, the script will output a warning saying the email address failed. Failures can be typos in peoples email address, so they fail, or your mail server is down, or you have not whitelisted exxoshost email server. There are various things which can fail, but I've coded in error checking for the most common ones.

So as of "now" im not aware of any "bugs" in the store, but will keep a eye open...

Will you be stocking any more v1.5 STF boosters? My STF has a different motherboard than the model listed under the 2.2.

Yes, There will be a new batch built hopefully starting next week. The PCBs and resistors are done, just gotta find some free time to solder the IC then test them all.

I've been doing a little bit of reading on PayPal and the holds they put on funds, so it looks like 90 to 180 days before a withdrawal of frozen funds can be made. However... depending on how you wish to treat them... I note that PayPal appears to roll over on its back when taken to a small claims court:
https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/overview

It would be all the more entertaining if they ignored the claim, and then were raided by a Bailiff, but unfortunately I find companies suddenly find their moral compass just before that fun begins.

Note: I have a bit of a reputation among staff at the school I work at, I usually show them the most effective method for claiming against any company that has breached some act or other ;) [Most companies in NZ have no idea that a post-sales agreement is illegal, and non-enforceable, for example. Great for claiming insurance on otherwise non-insurable items that a courier company loses, and then claims the insurance didn't cover because they don't accept such items.]

I've tried in the past to fight with companies, Unfortunately there are so many that it would turn into a full time job in its own right. I like a lot of people just "put up" with all the crap because it can drag on for years and people have enough stress in day to day life without fighting companies aswell.

PayPal just hide behind "you signed our user agreement back in 2002 and accepted if your account is closed we can hold your funds"... So no use fighting it. All companies are the same. I'm sure a lot of their terms and acts of conduct are illegal, but nothing is ever done about that.

Last fight I had was with facebook. In their terms they can "ban you for any or no reason" and they did just that. Might have had a fight with the bank at some point a few years ago.. Got stuck in a loop of them billing me for unplanned overdraft i'd put money in, then they would fine me again and then them themselves put me in the red with the fines.. ended up costing me over £200 in fines.. I was unemployed at the time , had no money either.

Then theres disputes with shops, ebay, garages.. you name it. I just try and avoid contact with companies as much as possible these days. Clear paypal and ebay have the worst customer support ever. I signed up with Stripe and they reply to emails normally within 10mins, very helpful, very polite, thats the type of company I will only deal with now. In fact I emailed a lot of companies about taking payments, was only really 2 which bothered to reply to my emails.

Had similar issues with UK hosting services, been with one for years, I wanted to add another website to my package, they said no, and wanted to bill me another £100 a year just to have another domain name in use. Basically told um to fek off and got my own dedicated server in the USA, very good support, very quick replies, UK firms were just useless. In anycase, I can put in as many sites and email accounts and run whatever software I want on my own server and its half the price I was paying in the UK and I get 500x better support now. So the UK host lost a long term customer.. usual "sting in the tail" for leaving...

Don't even get me started on ISP's......

Myself like most other people, we just get sick of fighting companies, I never had any issues with paypal, been with them since 2002. I fear the thought how much fees they had off me over the years.. then one day.. they ban me and thats that. Long term customer shot down.. Had similar fights with ebay 2 or 3 years ago.. personally sick and tired of pretty much everything to be honest. I just won't use paypal again, Sure never will sell anything on ebay again. I only deal with companies where I get quality services now, ebay and paypal are one of the worst companies to deal with.. Never again!

I will get my funds back eventually. Meanwhile I just have to wait for some sales so I can get some funds to continue various projects. Thankfully I did buy a lot of stuff before paypal banned me, so my held funds could have been a whole lot worse.

I've found a couple of hiccups so the store may be going offline at random points while I make updates. Mostly it was when people was entering those odd letters , IE not just A-Z stuff, so some overseas addresses were not being displayed correctly when I got the order. For now I did a quick fix to only allow english letters to pass.. I hope this will be fixed tomorrow..

Also a couple of other minor issues ive spotted and need fixing, Mainly noticed that people can actually enter invalid email address's, so the receipts fail and bounce back to me, so need to either validate the email address, and/or add in server messages should emails bounce to warn the user something went wrong.. Its one of those oversights where it wasn't something I considered to happen when I did the email scripts :-\

So if my store goes offline, please wait it out while I make changes and test them out..

Never underestimate the power of drink.

I've had a few run ins with banks etc, way I see it is if you know you are going to lose, tie up their resources so it costs them money. Spam if you have to. Lodge complaints, as they say down here, stick it right up em.

That takes more energy out of you though and nothing from them, because they are just a giant machine that consumes other people and their resources.

Depends how you approach it. I've beaten more than a few corporations by sheer persistence. I'm a stubborn bugger though.
