Re: Atarimania News

Thanx to Robson we have new ST game title for Atarimania: Hiscon Rescue . It is in Hungarian, 3D polygon shooter. Game is on Hu. STmag, Bomba no. 1. But probably first release was supplied with ST by distributor in Hungary, together with game Nautilus. Robson could say more about. I was not in Hungary in that time. I have Hiscon Rescue, just totally forgot about. So, I guess that they should be added to Atarimania. Original releases will be hard to dig out. I have both games, and may confirm that Hiscon Rescue is 100% same with what is on Bomba DiskMag. Nautilus I got long time ago on usual sharing ways - so don't know will it be OK for Atarimania. Let me know do you want ST images. I can provide additional infos and some translation by need.

Thanks for taking care of this bit (too).
Yes just as AtariZoll mentioned this game was on a disk together with Nautilus (another Hungarian game) when I bought my ST. There was a simple 1/2 selection menu for the 2 games. I can help if there are any language barriers but it's simple, shoot to kill :). You can go through some of the pyramids with bright light to recharge but their spinning makes it a little bit harder.
-----------------------------------------------
The menu:
1 Mouse sensitivity
2 Training mode on/off (BE=on)
3 Level - rookie
- medium
- hard
- expert (ace)
4 Intro (of objects)
5 High scores

Start with Left mouse button
--------------------------------------------------------

The game exists for Amiga too however their database here is not complete. I have the Amiga version somewhere too.

Great news! Big thanks to both of you! Could you post the file so I'll add it to the database and check it out. As long as there's no cracker messages or removed title screens it's ok to add the disk image too. If you happen to have some screenshots ready aswell i can add it faster to our database.

Thanks :) I've added the record based on info we have so far.

http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-st ... 30469.html

Will update it when more info comes available. At the moment we don't have Hungarian as a language selection but I've asked Franck to add it. So don't worry about it missing ;)

Took the programmer credits from HOL as title screen displays their both initials. One of them might be a graphist, but I don't know yet.

Still missing info for ST/STe compatibility, RAM requirements, number of players and disk format.
Looks like a cool game! Can't wait to try it out.

Just found out that you can download the Bomba 1 diskmag from Demozoo. It's part of the disk -> http://demozoo.org/productions/91119/

The game engine is very good indeed :)

Here are ST images of 2 games:
HISCONR.zip

NAUTIL.zip

I made them starting from AUTO folder, otherwise will not work with 512K RAM.
Obviously, both is made by same 2 persons - see screenshots, and 3D engine is same, indeed.

Thanks. I remember spending endless hours hunting down the ships.

Spec thanks for the Nautilus, I only had the cracked version of it this is so much better.

Still remember most of the shortcuts, a little help:

Q/A - acceleration/reverse
W/S - Dive
R - Radar zoom
M - Map
E - Electric/ Diesel switch - automatically changes to electric when under water
I - Status
V - Air compressor - you need to have compressed air to reach the surface again and for torpedos
H - pause
O/P - zoom
TAB/ CTRL (or caps lock?) - Time acceleration up/ down (good if you're travelling a lot)
K - press it so the submarine will follow the mouse
L - I'm not sure

Left mouse - torpedo
Right mouse - rocket

Can I ask 2 things please.

1. For Hiscon please format the list to show the bullets nicer.

2. Nautilus: Please remove the L -I'm not sure bit. On the disk there is a *.doc file with the full manual (in Hungarian of course).
It says "L" locks the steering to it's last position, Useful when doing long, continuous turns with the sub. The Red L on the HUD shows up when it's on.
It remains on until switched off or one of the arrow keys pressed.
Other shortcuts:

Help -Exit from game
Arrow Left/Right - steering Left/Right
Arrow Up/down - Set submarine's angle for diving and coming up
Cheers.

Oooops sorry about that. I just quickly copypasted the text as kids had their usual earlynight circus around the house, so had to jump to the real world duties before proofreading :D

Would like to add the Hungarian docs for both games but when i open them there's so many characters replaced by some characters that i don't know what to replace and with what :? Probably a characterset incompatibility between ST and WinXP.

Is there any way to convert the text so WinXP understands those characters?

This is interesting problem. Only case when I managed correct displaying of those DOC files was with Total Commander's viewer (F3), and with ACSII(DOS) charset - not perfect. but well readable. So, some SW what can convert that char. set to modern ANSI, or Windows1250 or Unicode would be good. I don't have any text processor installed, so don't know is there support for this old encoding.
If nothing helps, I can provide screenshots combined and converted to png - will be not long files in 2 color mode. Translating to English would be nice, but will take some time - I guess that Robson's English is better than mine - hehe - no pushing, I'm the last one who needs it

Ha-ha, did you see that doc...it's not a manual it's a novel.

Attached as pdf. I opened in word and swapped the only one strange character to the correct one and saved as pdf.

I can work on it but is there a real need? The keys are provided we can't replicate the manual since we don't have a copy to compare it to.
The game itself is better to be discovered by the player. I'm glad that both are preserved. Let's just leave it like that. :)

Thanks. I opened the doc inside the disk image using msa-converter and it replaced every character outside normal a-z with some strange ones. It usually does the same with german docs where it doesn't understand characters like ü or ß for example.
But no worries about that. Most important thing is that the games are now in a format which will last forever and fellow Atarians are able to play them :)

Hi,

Just managed to create the missing disk 6 from Beau Jolly's Big Box for Purple Saturn Day. :D STX plays OK in STEEM. STX has been uploaded to Atarimania FTP.
File is located in /st/kodak80/BeauJolly'sBigBox-update/BeauJolly'sBigBox-D6-PurpleSaturnDay.stx

I have also uploaded the JPEGs for the Beau Jolly's Big Box manual. :)

Here's another unreleased game rescued and preserved with thanks to the programmer Emiliano Gusmini and the Magnetica Development team :)

Doesn't work on STe unless someone is willing to modify it. Trainer wouldn't hurt either as it's a damn hard game.

Enjoy!

Racing! Sweet. :)

[edit]
Played it a bit, nice take over the vertical scrolling racing type.
Gameplay is nicely challenging. Pits are crucial it seems. It is F1 all right. :)

Hi Guys, i've been lent by a collector i transfer its collection for the game Diablo from Classic Image, and Diablo for Atari ST need to have 1 entry removed.

This game was published by Classic Image, and developped by Extended Software Co. in 1986. The creators of this game are Jay and Ruth Jorman.

It's an American game. I'll give the scans soon.
