I like this idea very much and i hope many demo crews will participate.

Rules?

100kb file size sounds good for me.
1 or 4 MB isn´t so easy. I think most currently used STE´s have 4 MB as it is easy and cheap to upgrade RAM. On the other side i am not a fan of big code tables... (that is not realtime for me anymore) but 4MB could be also used to hold Mainmenu and ResetScreen in memory while the single Screens could be use for example 2 MB.
And any screen should use at least one STE feature (like DMA-Sound, extended palette, Hardware-Scrolling or Blitter)

Any other ideas?

Any end date ? I would like to give it a try for an GFA entry but I'm al little "rusty" after all
these years. Hardware scrolling, blitter and the 256 color palette should be do-able :)

--- Bit off-topic---
Is there any good atari paint program that can handel 256 color gif's or BMP ?
I tried a few yesterday but all seem to fail. I have a conversion or remake
of a PC game in mind and already rebuild some of the GFX from true color back
to 256. Then I wanted to use it on the Atari but that was even a bigger challenge
then converting them :( I already tried Indy, Delm, cluck paint and some others
but they can not help. I want to use a resolution of 600*400 (480) *256 colors.
Could ofcourse try working on the pc with it but I always seem to struggel with the
colors for some reason...
--- on again ---

Ooo and just plain STE or Mega STE (the one i've got ;) )

You are welcome BoNuS. :)

Ehmmm, the STE doesn´t have any 256 colour palette mode. Just the palette has increased from 512 to 4096 colours - still 16 colours in 320x200 without any tricks.

Everybody should have enough time to do a screen - i am thinking about a deadline on 31th October 2009.

The RAM is not a real problem, but filesize may change if you include a module for example...

Hi Zorro, what maximum filesize would you suggest?

hi all
if crew/people code one screen 100Kb pack File and 1Mb Ram per screen is probably quite enought !

but a no limit compo can be cool to :)
4mo for a big 3d scene with balls and kickass sound will be cool
4mo for a 1plan 16x16 flat scrolltxt will be ridiculous (wait hummmm a 48h long scrolltxt.... why not! ;p)

For exemple :

- 1 module : 80 ko
- routs STE 12,5 Khz : 57 ko
---------------------------------
= prg : 113 ko (use less than 1 Mo of memory)

And packed by Upx (the best packer !) : 50 ko.

If you want after to add some gfxs and effects, it seems very limit to have a finaly intro with 100ko.

But is it that all the intros will have the same types of data ? I don't know ?

I think memory used and size will be a problem for the final assembly.

Especially if attempted by newbie demo coders (e.g. if I tried, it would be a big mess, bigger than 100k... and it would take about 5 years :D).

Well if asm coders aren't too bored with gfa contributions, i guess there might be some ...( cf bonus, ssb ...)

Maybe set two filesizes, one for demos using a .mod or a sample and 100kos (or less) for those using chiptunes ....
There's no way to happiness, happiness is the way ...

Hello all!

I think if we merge to a megademo, we should use the .s for init from the DHS 20 compo. This should be a first thing. All the megademo subsystem could so be re-used as it was done for the Ste and Falcon too. It includes mainmenu switching and loader.

Then I think as majority of ste are now using 4mb of ram, we just have to let 3,5 left for the demo. Like this, no one can have limits and if you want to make the best precacl rout of your life, it can be done!

Got already one old STE screen made for the Phaleon Demo (censored by Mit/Next :x ), that I could improve. And some unused code ready to run.

Great this thread got some life afterall :)

well lets do like this 100kb screens (which kept the first rule) will be placed on Disk 1 :)
but then.. really no need for rules (unless must use one or more STE spec's).

Well big thumb up for all who have thoughts to contribute!!

100k should be enough for a screen, really, but 96k sounds better :D
For the disk placement, i suggest to vote for the best screens.
step 1: introduce bug, step 2: fix bug, step 3: goto step 1.

Does anyone know the exact birthdays of each Atari machine? That would be quite interesting. I know I bought my STE sometime between March 10-13th 1990.

Hi Ralf,

Can you talk about the progress of this compilation today.

If they have the time, we can produce a dentro, but the size limitation may annoy us.

And if you encounter some difficulties to release it ???

It must have been late 1989, November/December.

It was previewed in the UK in November 1989

Hi Zorro 2,

Main menu, intro and reset screen are nearly finished - some gfx are missing. On our own screens we have still to work a bit.

Would be really nice if you would contribute. We could extend the deadline for some weeks if this would be helpful for you or anybody else - but it should be still in 2009.

Hi mister Ralf,

It seems to be good and news from Atomus today give us an extra BOOST. (I see your fresh post on DHS)

Tell us about the last deadline, of course it must do in 2009

No need help for the moment. We try to do all effects with blitter and it's a really a good challenge but it needs more time to code

At the end, when we assemble all the codes, maybe we need our helping hand :D
