ATI Mach64 running pretty hot!

Postby dhedberg » Sat Sep 22, 2018 11:05 am

So I got my Nova with the ATI Mach64 up and running. Seems to work great but it does run a bit hot inside that enclosure (standard one sold with the Nova). Even the enclosure itself get pretty warm. I wonder if the card needs passive or active cooling or are people running it in the box without anything?

Been some time pass here too, the ATI runs hot. I see paste on the GPU where I placed a heat sink. Unit was in a Wizztronics Rack, coolant flow was not on issue :)

I put a heatsink on the chip and also drilled some holes in the case to let hot air out. I thought fans might be overkill as it is designed to run hot anyway.

Thanks for all the comments on this! I'll most likely put a heat sink on it and drill some more holes as well, perhaps even put a couple of small silent fans in the box. At first I was sad to see that the card didn't fit inside the TT, now I'm actually glad that it doesn't as it produces quite some heat!
