1040STe and SC1435....

Postby Mindthreat » Sat Jul 08, 2017 5:13 am

Not sure where this topic belongs but curious for those who were around in the release time of the STe, was the SC1435 your dream monitor or did you prefer one of the older ones?

I originally owned the versatile Philips CM8833 - but when I saw the new SC1435 at my friends place, I was interested to buy it immediately. And I never regret it til this day, it's still happily working. The 8833 got into some problems years ago, and I had to recycle it at some point.

When I first got a 1040 STe, I bought the SC1435 as well. I really liked the
monitor stand, as well as the separate audio inputs and stereo speakers.

However, that said, I have to say that I think the SC1224, specifically the
JVC brand, has a superior picture. Not an overwhelming difference, mind
you - but enough for me to notice.

I had the Philips CM8833 also, and I felt that the SC1435 was a step down from that when I got one a year later, after my CM8833 had moved on to my Amiga. It was a nice design though to the housing, far better than the Philips monitor. In my opinion though, nothing matches the design of the original SM124. That felt amazingly futuristic to me at the time lol, even though it looks retro as hell now. The SC1224 is probably my favorite though, same basic design as the SM124 but with grills and obv. colour. I never owned one until about 5 years ago, and wish I had got one at the time, because it has by far the best picture quality of anything apart from my old Apple CRTs.
