Falcon Clock Patch method

Postby exxos » Sun Jul 31, 2016 10:17 am

I have documented the clock patch on my falcon for anyone who needs to do this.. This patch should help solve a lot of odd falcon problems such as DSP and SCSI issues.

http://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/falcpatch/index.htm

I personally would add some 33R resistors on the outputs of the buffer to reduce under/overshoot and/or ringing on the clock lines.

I have also found a similar thread which simbo started where he put up a schematic, I have not checked it but overall seems to be the basic idea. I have put the information below in case it is needed. I will draw up a diagram for my site when I get some free time.

here is the schematic for the chip too use for the clock patch.I bent up the pins cut the pin tips and epoxy the ic to the board. its basically the same chipset patch as the nemesis uses i used a 74HCT04 .

The original mod recommends to fit a 150pf capacitor between ground and the clock in pin of the dma chip pin 110.if you have problems with dma you can try that addition {add the 150pf cap to pin 110 and ground close or on the pin i would go for close {5mm away to avoid damage}

i also changed the value of the 33pf cap to 47pf as the logic chip input gates are different to the older LS type too hct.

SCSI problems with read and write on SCSI devices, and NO DSP sound at all. That's the problem's i had when i did not have Patch installed on my PAL Falcon Motherboards.

There's this post on the wiki too http://www.atari-wiki.com/index.php/SDMA_Patch

Yours looks kind of like Method 2 I think but the info doesn't detail the underside of the chip like your photograph.

Would be good to have a de facto solution to this, as I've seen a number of methods posted on the board

I believe there is 2-3 different schematics somewhere on here, i did the rev. One by simbo and the one provide by Atari posted on that link you gave us. They both worked fine.
