I don't know how other drivers work, someone her no doubt does. Though if your partition is a normal DOS type, then really , you should be able just to install a new driver without to much trouble.
Just try booting the demo of HD9 from a floppy, and bypass your old driver software and see if you can get HD9 to see your drive, then you can give it a try out.
PP's driver is also very good, he is on here a lot so you can get good help, and I think his software is a lower cost than HD9.
I wouldn't use anything else these days, older software driver are likely very old and buggy and if something goes wrong, your in trouble.
