Updated PH Easy Remote Print v1.01

- fixes crash on selecting edit field consecutively.
- add pherpde.rsc file ( but it is still in English, German translation on the way).
- removed small bug by adding 2 space to name of program.

Get it from Probe House Software

This looks like a way to hide apps from the drop down.
Is there any way to hide it from Taskbar ?

Yes, by violating the specifications for menu_register() ;). Please don't do that, you never knows how this is handled in the future. Maybe a future AES (or version of XaAES) decides not to accept an application doing this?

wongck wrote:Is there any way to hide it from Taskbar ?

Yes, you drag it's button to the trashcan. Or right-click on the button and select "Configure" from the popup.

In my case, it is really an oversight on the 2 spaces. No intention to hide it, and it is fixed now.
Only seems like a possible root-kit type of capability so that the process don't show up normally. Of course doing a PS will show it still.

I mean programmable, like by violating the specs for menu_register(). Again, possible root-kit idea.

Only by modifying Taskbar's configuration file.

I did a test on MagiC With MagiCNet. It works (sort of).
- pherp will terminate after a minute or so with 68k exception
- configuration works
- sending the test page to the printer did produce a result, but I had to cancel the print as the printer was waiting for more data.
- :megaphone: I got a print:  :D

Code: Select all

Test Print out from    PH Easy Remote Print

Client = CT2_FALCON
LPD server = 192.168.0.100
printer name = lp
Test Print out time 19:34:2

The second digit of the seconds is missing.

Nevertheless, this is the very first time I was able to print something from my Atari to the network printer.

Very good!

Sending a file over that was printed via NVDI works and prints out okay, but I have yet to find a printer driver and setting that matches my printer.

Great job!! :D
I never got it to work on MagiC... I do not know why.

Sound great..... a good step forward :D

Did you just drag & drop the file to PH ERP or did the folder watch?

I did drag and drop the file immediately after starting pherp. Folder watch is disabled and no folder set.

Ok. I thought it was the folder watch that kills it.
Looks like it is something else.
I hope to make it run on my MagiC, it is freezing on mine.

Guess what... I tried to run PH Easy Remote Print on my MagiC and this time it did not hang... !!!
it did hang for me previously.
But now I have a TCP error, that say host cannot be found on my MagiXnet. :(
Well, I know that I have not really installed it properly. Too much time spend making apps.

Ektus wrote:pherp will terminate after a minute or so with 68k exception

And yes, I can simulate this error now.

May be a quick workaround that you can do now to get you going.... before I release an revision. :D
1. Keep the "activate watch folder" to off
2. Make a folder that is empty on your drive. Any name will do, just keep it empty.
3. Under configuration, select your watch folder to be the above folder you just made.
4. Save. It should not crash now.

It seems to be crashing if the folder is not there. Only happens in MagiC, it seems to work OK in Mint.
I could not test this earlier as it was not working in MagiC. I think I may have mixed architecture again during testing time.

Okay, so no need to send you the exception processing output from my CT63. There, the behaviour is exactly the same.

Okay, done, and seems to do the trick. Thank you very much!

Great that the workaround worked. Enjoy :-)

Actually, reading the code, if you make that a watch folder it should also work.

Ektus wrote:P.S.: The printer in use is a Brother MFC-7820N laser multi-function device. I was able to print a document from Signum!4 using HPLASER.TRB

Yes, most of the printers till today still understands HP PCL standard.
So long as you can make the Atari side output PCL standard (most HP laserjet do) you will be able to make print out.
Both Postscript and HP PCL works great.

I tried to do colour printout, using HP Deskjet PCL, but I was not successful.

I am just discovering your new program, how lucky we are :D

If i understood well it allows an Atari computer to use a printer connected on a PC through network?

Just drop by the website every now & then to check for something new.
But that's probably all the apps for this year, May be some more next year.
We all are lucky so far.
I want to try out USB for the rest of the time before 26 Dec 2012 (or whatever the date is).
Let's see if we are still lucky....

MadMax2023 wrote:If i understood well it allows an Atari computer to use a printer connected on a PC through network?
Yes and not only that.
So long as it runs lpd on the device, it can also print directly to a multi-function-device, like a photocopier with a printing function. :D I have done that during my testing.

PH Easy Remote Print v1.02
- German translation by Latz.
- fixes the MagiC crashes on no watch folder defined.

Get it from the old location

There is a classic start menu program for win8. It's much more practical than metro UI for some uses.

Thanks guys.
This is exactly what I installed and make it more bearable.
I will also be installing the Gadgets, just deciding which method to use.

Overall, my PC seems slower to boot to the desktop. I think Win 8 is assuming every PC to be 100% on-line and tries to get stuff for the metro so wasting time for timeout. Anyway, classicshell will skip them which is great.

I wonder if I can skip the clock screen before log-on screen. Kinda of stupid of Microsoft to think that you turn on your computer to look at the time.

WOW!
It worked at first launch! woo-hoooo!!!

I manages to send a document from Papyrus to my wireless printer (HP8500) using the NVDI driver for the most advanced driver available (HP890 IIRC...) using drag&drop.

I would like to use the watchfolder, now, but it didn't work.

So, let's see if I did something wrong:

I made a folder somewhere
I pointed to it with the configure dialog
I sent the printout to that folder setting the path-to-file from within NVDI dialog box (I checked: the print file was there)
nothing happened

Second try:
I pointed to the NVDI spool folder
I sent the printout to that folder
nothing happened

Hmmm...
