An entry for FX-extender is on DOITF030.
It's in German.... so...translated from Uncle G.

Code: Select all

FX Extender Card
Recently the company has BlowUp the Falcon FX-Extender. The card provides three useful extensions on a single board available. Up to the 289th 01.07.1995 - DM savoring extension includes an accelerator complex which is beside the CPU is also capable of the DSP and FPU speed up time. In addition, you get the screen enlargement BlowUP hardware I. The main thing is to equip this card in a position his Falcon next to the accelerator, even with Fastram

unfortunately no mention of CPU speed.

Hi,
FXtender card can boost the MB to 18 or 20 MHz, additionally the CPU can be
boosted to 2x system clock (32, 36 or 40 MHz). DSP can be set to 50 MHz.
SIMM RAM up to 10 MB, 4 slots, i think.

I have one in one of my Falcons.

- CPU- and bus-speeder. Bus 18 or 20MHz, CPU optionally double-clocked.
- FastRAM expansion. Up to 10Mb in addition to the 4Mb ordinary RAM. There are rumours about a mythical firmware that allows more. I've never seen it.
- Screen enhancement.

The card is for sale/trade btw.

Hi,
You can have my FXtender with 10 MB RAM and german manual if shipping is not
too expensive. Where do you live?
But if you want to have a real fast Falcon i would recommend a CT63...
Fxtender needs some soldering on MB and EtherNeC can only be used at 16MHz,
RAM is limited to 10 MB (in fact you can't use more than 14MB overall, so if
you have a 14 MB STRAM, FXtender RAM is useless).
Like i wrote before, i never was really happy with it.

I can see why you are not happy with it.
Only thing is the big screen and double system clock.

Having owned several Falcon speeders I'd say the BlowUp FX is as good as it gets without replacing the CPU. The FastRAM is actually "fast", and the speeder part works well. However, speeding the bus on a Falcon is always risky business. After a few years (and a few accelerators, including a self-built one) I got tired of tweaking the Falcon to work correctly at 20Mhz, so in 2000 I reverted back to stock bus speed and relied on the Afterburner and graphics card to get things done ;) I'm going to remove the FX from my other Falcon as well, just to keep it stock and without having to worry about slightly dodgy stability.

Hi,
don't know if i understand correct:
FXtender can use 1 MB- and 4 MB-standard SIMMs (30 contacts,
accessrate 70 ns, 8 or 9 bit) which are mounted pairwise, means
there are the following possible combinations:
- 2x1 MB
- 2x1 MB + 2x1 MB
- 2x4 MB
- 2x4 MB + 2x1 MB

I bought one of these used years ago and never installed it, however I never got the installation instructions for the multitude of wires that need to be connected. So if someone out there has the installation diagram / instructions, please let me know. Thanks.

No probs buds, post up some pictures of the install, i'm interested in how it goes. I had every intention of installing mine until the CT60e came on the radar.

That is my problem. I have a CT60e too, and was planning on using it for just the Ram and Blowup without the booster, then I seen my Falcon is number 47 and in mint condition, and now wonder if I should modify it at all. Hmmm
