Which XIF file for Hydra network card in EasyMint 1.90?

Postby 1st1 » Sun Nov 19, 2017 7:38 pm

Hello, I am trying to install EasyMint on my TT. I want to have networking, so I have a Hydra ROM port network card. This is the same as NetUSBee without USB.

When installing EasyMint, after decompressing many hundreds of rpm files it asks me for the network card driver. The challenge is already to find the location with the XIF files, it's somewhere under /boot/ on my Minix?Ext? formatted drive where all rpms were extracted (for me drive K: which was marked as LNX partition). There are many XIF files, but I am not sure which ones to choose. There are some where I know that they do not fit, but some where I am unsure. Please help.

I'm using this one with my Falcon/CT60e. Works in both 060 and 030 mode.

Interestingly EasyMint does not provide this one. So I have to add it manually. EasyMint isn't that easy...

EasyMint is primarily a Installer for the UNIX SpareMiNT Packages ...

EasyMiNT has only the official MiNT Driver and Tools and the NetusBee, Hydra or EtherNEC driver are not a component from FreeMiNT.

In Ozk's driver's case it's because lack of source code. In the official driver's case, it's mostly because the source code is tailored for genst (devpac) and PureC, not impossible to change but it requires some work. You can find it here: https://github.com/mikrosk/etherne (incl. my driver for the Ethernex: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=28840)

In the above picture, there are ethernat.xif, what is that? And there ist RTL8012.xif and RTL8012ST.xif, what they are? The Hydra card has RTL8019 chip, are they compatible?

It's strange that the most common and easy to get network card for the Ataris (NetUSBee) is not directly supported by a MiNT installer which should be so easy.

RTL8019 == NE2000.

I know that it is NE2000 compatible. But what is RTL8012? What is RTL8012ST? What is ETHERNAT? Is it also NE2000?

RTL8012*.XIF is a driver for a card similar to EtherNEC but based on the RTL8012 chip. It had been designed by Vassilis Papathanassiou, the author of MagiCNet. You can find more about it here: http://users.otenet.gr/~papval/ethernet.htm. The only difference between the ST and "normal" version is CPU flags.

EtherNAT is a network card based on the LAN91C111 controller, more here: http://nature.atari.org/ethernat.html
