If you have the source code of a fast video decoder for falcon, I will look what I can do to use it :)

This might be of interest, in parts.

http://files.dhs.nu/party/sillyventure2013/mag2013/Magstuff/mpegmac.htm

The short version:- MPlayer seems to offer better results for lower end machines than Aniplayer, but Aniplayer allows multi-tasking/multithreading to take place.

I tried both MPlayer and Animator (from the removers)

Here are my results on a stock falcon:
256x192 Cinepak Video (without sound)
Animator 14.7 frames/s
MPlayer 9.4 frames/s

320x240 Cinepak Video (without sound)
Animator 9.4 frames/s
MPlayer 6 frames/s

Animator is much faster, and the sources are available, but it will take some time to get the cinepak code integrated in my lib :/

Well that one passed me by. Sounds like you've got a winner Orion :D

I got in touch with the authors of Animator, and thanks to the open source, I got something running using the cinepak module :)
The cinepak video works only in 030 mode @15fps, but I have my own codec for 060 (and a bit better quality than cinepak)
so I guess there will be 2 versions, one 030, and one 060
I ported my game library to the falcon and from the test I did, I got something like 10fps in 030 mode VGA 60hz in game, maybe less fps in some part of the game (with lots of sprites overlay), maybe more fps in TV 50hz mode

strange. I try Animator on CT63 plain TOS and it works perfect! 25fps at 320x200.

but even better if you have better solution for 060 video ;)
if it is not a secret, what is it? :)

HI

I would be interested in the full CD version on falcon with CT63 and CTPCI similarly like Elansar version.

no CTPCI version, as I don't have one, and the CT60 can't handle big resolution (for movie decoding, etc... it's just enough for 320x240)
I will do a Elansar+Philia pack discount :)

I almost finished the Falcon port, here is a video of the game running on my Atari Falcon 030 @ 16mhz
and at 2:25 mark you can see the game running on CT60 @ 90mhz (but it's same speed @66mhz)
https://vimeo.com/81445559

I can say that, the game needs minimum 8MB of ram to be fully playable, you might make it work on 4MB of ram but you won't be able to hear the music then, only sfx.
It works on stock falcon @16mhz, but it's a bit slow, around 12fps on vga60hz, 15 fps on rgb50hz
I can't help it, I'm already using fast asm code, and even pre-generated code for transparent sprite.
That's why an accelerated card is highly recommended for smoother gameplay, on CT60 it's running at 30fps on vga60hz

Sweet!

I'm subscribed. Looks like 2014 is going to be a vintage year for games.

is it possible to make faster but more jerky scroll on 16MHz 030?
16MHz is very smooth but slow - can you e.g. skip every second frame and make turning around faster (consequence would be less smooth scroll)?

otherwise it looks amazing! especial video on stock Falcon!!

Hello,
I don't know if someone who bought my game, also have a Firebee, if yes, then could you test the game on your Firebee ?
I don't know if the Firebee emulate the 16bits video mode of the Videl (at a register level) If yes, then the game could work on the Firebee

Hi Cedric
I tested it on my Firebee not on my Falcon (i have not turned on my Falcons yet but i'm sure it will work).
I tested your game on my Firebee because you asked in the forum if someone could test it to see if it will work on Fifebee too..
I'm playing your game on a Mac and i can say it's really great ,quite different in location from Elansar but i like it :D
Only one question, on my Mac the game does not save and i must start again all the time . How the save function work? on the manual is written that it has automatic save but i don't know how to restart with progressive made.

oh I see, I misunderstood, so ok the game doesn't work on Firebee, now I know, thanks :)
Regarding the Mac version, you must copy the "Philia" folder on your harddrive, because if you play from CD, it won't save, it must be on your harddrive to be able to save in the "save" folder, so If you copy the entire "Philia" folder, be sure that the "save" folder is there too (even if empty the first time), a "save.bin" file should be saved in the "save" folder once you start to play
Your game is saved each time to click to go to another location.
