Beats of rage V1.1

Postby LaurentS » Fri Dec 14, 2012 6:50 pm

Hi all,

I'm happy to give you Beats of rage V1.1
(I really want BOR to be the best game for Falcon) :)

You can download it at the following address : http://dl.free.fr/hltSke5nl
You can remove the V1.0, this new release is complete.

V1.1 Current version:

Bug fixed:
- 2 enemies had one attack that didn't generate hit points
- the joystick is now working
- the jump movement is not taken into account when the player
respawn (he was leaving the screen, and the game freezed)

New features:
- the border should be black instead of white (not verified)
- Better IA for the enemies: enemies walk to the player if they're too far
- inner game timer accelerated to have a more nervous game
- a new animation which gives a better arcade look to the game (I let you discover it)

I've removed the BOR_HATA.PRg file, as beats of rage works well with the sound and music under hatari.exe (not hatari_falcon.exe)

Have fun.

Thadoss

PS : Please, tell me is the border is really black now on RGB monitor, I couldn't verify it on my Falcon.
PS2 : this is a temporary storage area, so if you could copy the game to a persistant site, I would be glad (on your sites, ...)

Hello Thadoss,

great new release, due to the better AI it is a little harder but I really like to play it with Joystick!

You should really get a Jagpad. It is definitely worth the money!

One "bug" I still see is that when you throw an enemy, e.g. with Mandy, he flies in the wrong direction. She is doing a throw where the enemy should fly behind her, but he will just move away from her as if he would receive a hit.

Would be great if you could fix that...

Beats of Rage rocks!

I love it!

Hi MacFalcon,

I first did it the way you describe.
But I thought it was strange, so I decided that a player "push" his ennemy far from him.

I can do a version where the enemy flies behind if many people prefer it, but I personaly prefered the way it it.

As you want.

Regards
Thadoss

For me it would be a real benefit to the game if the enemy flew behind me... as I know those techniques in real life it just doesn't fit the way it is now... if you look at Mandy - she grabs the enemy, lies down and pulls him so that he would fly behind her. But instead he goes in the other direction, what would mean he avoided the throwing technique... not that it hast to be realistic, but it just wouldn't work that way if it was real ;)

I finally found the time to play this. The presentation is great but the game is atm hampered like all ST joystick controlled beat 'em ups: you don't really know what move on the stick does what. Now it is really serious: please add jagpad support. It would improve playability a lot.

Otherwise very well presented, almost like other early 90s consoles so all in all still

Hi,

Some news :

- I've modified the "flying enemy" animation.
It now flies behond the player.

- I'm working on the flickering problem in the background (but I still haven't found anything serious).

- Simon, send me some code for the jagpad, I'll try to see if I can do something for you (but as I don't own one, you'll have to do the testing)

I'll send a V1.2 with these 3 changes as soon as possible.

regards

Laurent / Thadoss

I have attached a source file. You will have to strip the AHCC specific stuffs from the file.
You basically cyclicly poll the pads with one call and afterwards you can decode the resulting bitvectors. Bit set means "button pressed", the actual bit mapping is listed in the source.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi Thadoss,

Great that you keep working on this! It is really worth it! I am also willing to do testing for a jagpad version ;) As a falcon gamer a jagpad is a really good investment! I even would donate you one if that results in a jagpad playable version :D

Stay Atari ;)

Would you ?

In this case, of course, I would take the time in return to add the jagpad in Beats of rage and in the next games I'll do ... )

Best regards

Laurent
