Elansar : Falcon Youtube Preview

Postby nativ » Sat Aug 20, 2011 9:37 am

A new Falcon game in the offing! Standard Spec machine!

Elansar

Uploaded by onorisoft on 15 Aug 2011

This is a part of the Making Of "Elansar" a Game I'm currently working on my freetime.
It's a "myst" like game, with pre rendered 3D graphics where the player evolve on an island and must solve enigma to escape.
I'm planning to make the game playable on Psx / PC Engine / Dingoo / Atari Falcon and maybe more.
Video Music: Leandi - Mozaik

Looks great.
Pre-rendered 3D images, looks like it needs tons of space for the images.

As i am from a cell phone i can't watch now the video, but i have to say that i am very happy to see a new project playable on our beloved Falcon!
And moreover i like this kind of games : exploration and enigma.
A great thing would be to make it playable under GEM in order to play it from the desktop for the users who own a CTPCI.
THANKS

oh nice, I didn't saw that topic on my project :)

I finished all the images rendering and now making the engine on PC for debugging.
I will then port it to falcon and others machine.
I will try to use GEM so it could be hopefully ctpci and firebee compatible ! also with a 256 colors and Hicolor version.
I still need to do some gem testing for that.

I hope it will be finished before mid-2012 :)
Don't expect a 20 hours long game, as I'm doing everything alone, it will more likely be 1 hour max (or less if you are good at that kind of game)

This is a Beta version, for PC/Windows, much easier for beta testing, I will then port it to Playstation/Falcon/Jaguar/PCEngine

I would like to know how many of you would like to buy this game.
The Jaguar version would come in a cartridge form (not sure if a box can be made) and would cost around 50€
The Atari Falcon 030, Playstation and Nec PC Engine Super-CDRom² versions would come in a printed CD-R version with crystal box. and would cost around 15€
(not including postal fee from France to your country)

WARNING: The Playstation version need a boot CD (not included) or a console with a modchip that can boot backup cd-r ! (not included)

If you could tell me for which platform you would buy this game, that would help me, thank you :)

Hi Orion_

How large is the game likely to be? How will you be distributing it? On CD ?

I am interested!

Yes it will be on CD, I think it will take over 50mbytes because I would like to make a 256 colors version for falcon 030 and a true color version for ctpci and hopefully firebee

But it's basically static scenes with very few animated sprites. You wouldn't have a problem with high colour.

That makes sense. You can definitely have it at 640x480 for accelerated machines.

I would be interested in a Falcon version, especially for accelerated Falcys :-) - CD-Rom is cool for me. The price suggested is very reasonable

I have a couple of comments/queries at the same time.

How do you propose getting the message out a lot more to maximise your potential audience? I guess your earlier posting is a tentative first step but it is not going to get hundreds of replies just yet. Maybe one of the things you can do here specifically is to set up a poll with the different options?

Also just as a general question, how easy is it going to be to quickly port the game engine between all the different platforms you're proposing?

It will only need a cursor, so I will try to make it GEM compatible, so no need for accelerated falcon, it should work on falcon 030 with 640x480 8bits
I posted this on several forum, each one for specific platform. (including atariage, ...)

The game engine is made in C, with an independent part and a platform specific part (for drawing/sound) but it will require specific port by hand for pc engine / jaguar (in assembly language)
and each platform need a dedicated picture conversion process

If it will be available for FireBee I will buy it as it will be my almost only Atari compatible computer beside Milan. Any chance to run also on Milan? I read it will be GEM compatible. So it should run?

I don't know how works the Milan (do it have 8bits video mode ? 32 bits video mode ? what resolution ?)
GEM is supposed to be standard, but not when using high resolution graphics ... because then we have to do all the work on our side to convert the graphics at the correct bpp.. and this is very painful to do..
that's why I will stick with 256 colors mode (plannar falcon style) and 32bits RGBA (radeon/firebee style)
I know there are plugins like screen.ldg that do the work, but this is a game, and I need speed !

I'm planning to do a test program that you can download, so you can test it on your computer to see if elansar will work or not.

I am more for FireBee version as for Milan. But in Milan you have 16bit up to 32bit graphics.
If the game will work on Atari Falcon CT60 with Radeon graphics card, then I think there is
no problem regarding the graphics.

It the game will work in GEM and it is written in C then I guess it just has to be compiled
for Milan and FireBee.
