best games?

Postby Brume » Tue Aug 12, 2003 9:42 pm

Well, I must admit I had never played with my Falcon (shame on me!). Until today, I was more interested in demos... but now I'm wondering which games are the best for the machine.
Could someone make a short list of good (& commercial?) games?
Thanks ;)
Brume.

I've always been interested in playing that Jeff Minter game "Llamazap" on the Falcon, the screenshots in ST Format always looked so cool. There are also versions of Steel Talons and Road Riot for the Falcon. Then of course, there are the Silmarils games for the falcon like Ishar, Transarctica, Robinsons Requiem ... Towers 2 might also be worth checking out!

Those are the ones that come to mind now ...

LLamaZap looks and plays alright.. a bit hectic and not easy as most of Yak's games. I expected more of it then what it is though

The Domark/Tengen games like Steel Talons and RR4WD are hmm.. crap. I'm sure there were software houses around that could have done a better job on a plain ST.
Especially Steel Talons is a very sad production. It kinda weird how they could have a not too bad 3D engine for Mig 29 Fullcrum and created such a bad one on the Falcon for Steel Talons.

Hey, was this a port of the arcade Raiden? If so, damn I'd like to see it -Raiden was one of my favorites back then (oh the coins I fed it!)... Are there any screenshots around?

Cheers

A bit off-topic, perhaps, but...

... have you tried Raiden on MAME on the peecee? It was also one of my favourites, and pressing F1 sure beats feeding it coins... :-)

It comes complete with the "too-many-sprites-graphics-hiccup" and all! ;-)

It's OK and nothing more. Runs pretty slow IMO and I just haven't went back to it since. You want raiden just play it on the Jaguar :)

I played Towers II quite a long time, it was very nice. Best 3D game on Falcon, because it looked good, but was still playable.

Painium Disaster was also nice (but I was involved in development, so i am prejudiced and it seems I was the only one who could handle the difficulty  )

[OT=pc stuff again]
I have a PC port of Raiden 2 if anyone's interested, runs just like that no install or anything.
Raiden 2 is much more fun than raiden 1 because you get the cool third weapon which is a flexible energy beam thingie ...

RUNNING was surely one of the best games.. technically and in general :) Created by sceners around crews like STAX and CREAM it was one of the last commercial games that were sold for the falcon.

btw.. is there some falcon game list?
