Music Master, by ubi soft (for MV 16 extension card)

Postby farvardin » Tue Sep 29, 2015 7:44 pm

I own a MV 16 extension card, which I got with the B.A.T. game. I've heard of a tracker dedicated to this card, called Music Master.
I've downloaded this piece of software recently, but I haven't tried it yet. Has someone here already done something with it?

Hmmm, I'm curious; what does the card do?

there are detailed informations on this extension sound card on the topic pointed by Dal, and in addition you can listen to how it sounds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cYJGTL0QrE

At the time, when the B.A.T. game was released in 1989, on my Atari STF I hadn't heard anything so good from a computer (probably the Amiga could do something similar for digital music, but I hadn't access to one at that time). Some people said this extension card was a kind of bullshit and was only for protection (indeed it was also for the protection), but the sound was much better than what you could get on a normal STF (with no DMA). It was probably not rocket science (as you can see from the inside circuitry, it's quite simple), but it worked well. The music was also quite memorable. Some more music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxAHqYP9hAg (I don't know what happened to this one, the sound is not very good)

And so they said several other games and applications should use this MV16 card in the future. I thought nothing came out, until I discovered of this Music Master, so I'm curious to try it for real or to hear some project using it. It's probably not better than what I could get from a modern soundtracker on PC or Amiga.

I've got an MV16 somewhere as well. It came with my copy of B.A.T.

I recall that there is at least one other application that does support it. Namely Audio Sculpture.

It wouldn't do anything else apart from the basic four channels, and the STE 50 KHz option kind of made it irrelevant for me personally. But still a good one for the STFM.

Looking at the board pix, the cart is a 16b R2R dac with a LM386 amp . Very much like the A8's Covox type boards.

After search for Music Master, also looks like Digi Composer also supports the MV16. And maybe Noisetracker 1.5 :)

TCB tracker supported it too, I think.

hmm, thanks for the feedback. I tried some days ago to run music master with my BAT MV16. After I clicked on the icon, it loads but nothing happens (green desktop with the bee trying to load endlessly). Maybe it's the reason.

Thanks also for the Audio Sculpture tips, I'll try to use it.
