Help me to rip a module Please

Postby mOa » Sun Mar 15, 2020 3:54 pm

Hello all
Please, can someone help me to rip a soundtracker module called "FROG" by Delos / NAOS
I'm trying to get it for years. i'm not sure it's in Protracker format.
Here's a memory snapshot from STEEM. Using classic rippers don't work because data is swapped backward.
If you scan the end of the file, you can find the samples but there are played backward.
The end of the file show some message clearly inverted like this:

eingapmoc & soaN,redocM,srednalrevO,noixennoc tS,ycageL 39-29-1991 sGORFzzIW ! sremal reppir yppah - noitcetorp on sah omed eht-tihs a si redaol ehT -tnatum a ekil skool toob siht .... srotinom roloc rof dengised
saw ecneF ehT revO seiggorF ehT tub yrros .yrros .. nur ot erom ro etybAGEM 1
sdeen ecneF eht revo seiggorF

Can someone just convert the file in reverse order please?

Thank you

Here's a fully reversed version of your STEEM snapshot, but I don't think it'll help rip the tune. The scroll text and display text might be stored in reverse to make it a bit more tricky to rip, but I don't know how STEEM snapshots are stored so I don't think the memory dump itself is reversed.
Do you have the standalone version of the demo or is it from the Froggies Over The Fence demo?
They don't have the standalone version on Demozoo.

froggies1.zip contents:
reverse.exe
frog.out (reversed version of the file you supplied)

Also attached is the C++ source code to reverse a whole file byte for byte. It loads the whole file into memory so be sensible.

The samples can be heard by loading the file into Audacity. The samples are Unsigned 8-bit PCM.

Still got, still working: Atari 4Mb STe, 520STFM, 2.5Mb STF.
Hardware: Cumana CSA 354, Ultimate Ripper, Blitz Turbo, Synchro Express II (US and UK Versions).

Thank you for your help, both of you
Well... I didn't find anything looking like a .MOD format
Apparently ST CONNEXION used to use custom soundtrack routine by the past
I found a CNX! header near the samples so I presume it is here...
STEEM snapshots are reversed so thanks your work was usefull anyway

Surely, DELOS have composed it with Protracker and then converted it
So get in touch with him might be the last chance...27 years after

Many years ago I tried to track down Delos to get the original modfile but without any luck.

Imho they are using a sample in the demo... so you can stop looking for a modfile of any kind.
