If memory serves me right, there was a slideshow program called DSlide that would allow the user to select from a variety of built in sounds while running a slideshow of your images on the floppy. The tunes were great. I think I recorded it on my camcorder, so I'll hunt it out and link to it.

To be fair it's a sample of the Bomb the Bass tune 'Megablast - hip hop on precinct 13', which gives a fair nod to the original :)

My vote, however, would be one of Jochen's tunes from 'leavin' terramis'..

it's here, on the 'it still keeps going, just' plopbox:

http://www.plopbox.net/index.php?id=1525

if you have a recent version of JAVA, you'll need to add the site to the exceptions list in control panel (like i've had to do for the switches and phone systems I look after, stupid JAVA) but it should be good to go after that :)

Thrust was pretty hard as a game, so sometimes I started it in my ST just to listen to the Ron Hubbard music. :-)

I did like to listen to Jochen "Mad Max" Hippel's 1990 intro to Enchanted Land

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lnbS-ILkkI#t=0m50s

But then I heard the music from the C64 game Lightforce by Rob Hubbard from 1986

For a tune which sounds brilliant in its original Rob Hubbard C64 version and in almost any remixed version, I would have to nominate LIGHTFORCE. On the ST my favourite version is Mad Max's version on the B.I.G. demo.

For the most unbelievably epic, W.A.R. from the same demo (Mad Max again)

For a great tune which just thumps along, LABELLO, the version in 'The Digital Department' once again in the B.I.G Demo. The YM version in the same same demo is not bad either... all Mad Max again of course.

In discussions about Atari tunes it's almost inevitable that the B.I.G demo will come up because it featured such a colossal number of tunes, all lovingly translated from the originals.

I would have to say probably Lotus 2 for me. The drum effects alone are bad ass imo.

I also adore Speedball (one)'s intro music, but one of the St Tune I enjoy the most, and I think it was only released on the Atari ST, is Heroes of the Lance: http://www.oldgames.sk/en/game/heroes-o ... load/6108/ (edit: I found the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKq5voqOlIs)
This tune is quite short, but very catchy and original.
This game was released for other plateforms of course, but the music is different.

Nobody mentioned it must be synthetic, so...

I was going to try out ST Tetris when I came over this great Tao tune again, when booting up D-Bug 54 A Menu. I tried to see if I could find it on YouTube, and here it is:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vARVfoIzua8

It's from the main menu of Just Buggin' megademo by ACF. The tune is called Cultivation. I think that tune is very catchy, especially in the beginning.

@Amimiti nice track indeed, and good looking demo as well (I'm downloading it right now). Is the character from an existing game?

I've found a nice tune in Mindscape's Legend (a.k.a. The Four Crystals of Trazere), there is a dos version on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWSn5z_USaE
But the ST version sounds much better in my opinion (more presence and rawer). You can get the .st image there

Just for the sake of anyone listening it, one of the best ST tunes : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7ijJd_GsVY (Big Alec - Judgement Day)
Progressive melodic chip-music at its finest.

I can listen it just as much as Mirage from JL Ponty, for example, triggers the same feelings.
