Most catchy st tune ever

Postby musojon74 » Wed Oct 16, 2013 7:11 am

Well I have spent all morning so far with the tune from Ranarama going through my head. It got me thinking - what is the catchiest st tune ever? What gets stuck in your head for days?

I'll start off with 2 nominations.

Ranarama
Zynaps

Note that they don't have to be your favourite tunes just the ones you can't get out if your head :-)

Xenon 1 (level 1) for me.

Terramex theme as well, but I think Xenon beats it.

Xenon 1, 1st level tune, even my father remembered it when he recently heard it:

Also another cool "loading" music, is the loading tune from "Froggies Over the Fence". A really dancey one, which makes you wanna jump around.

Pacland.

That tune still pops into my head randomly even now, 20 years since I last played it.

Gosh, kinda hard to pick - I've got several that I can't (ever)
get out of my head:

Ultima 5 - intro sceen music - just seemed so "epic", like an RPG
should.

Xenon 2 - Bomb The Bass - 'Nuff said. :)

Stardust - this one just makes me want to crank the volume *up*. :)

Venus The Flytrap - don't know why, just catchy to me.

The sample it plays when loading is OK, but as soon as it switches to the YM sound chip... yuk. They even managed to get the beat wrong (it's ever so slightly slower than the sample).

Zynaps but not on the ST...I prefer it when output from a Amstrad CPC, which has much more depth and better stereo FX etc and just sounds way better.

I remember that.

Could it have been replay routine which used the VBL as a timer? Some coders did that and the replay routine sounds different at different refresh rates e.g. 50Hz & 60Hz

Does it sound correct at 60Hz?

Actually, the Xenon 2 intro is based on the Assault on Precinct 13 theme by John Carpenter.
