Who composed Venus the Flytrap?

Postby accxess » Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:45 pm

Hi there!

I am working on a remix of the Venus the Flytrap intro, but who actually composed this tune? Some say it was David Lowe (Uncle Art) and McMullan, and some say it was Ben Daglish. any ideas?

Thanks!

It turns out that David Lowe did not do the music to Venus the Flytrap. He is 100% certain he didn't have anything to do with it.

The demo version from Zero magazine had the music from H.A.T.E. by Ben Dalglish

Several sources credit "McMullan and Low" for the Amiga version.

Short of disassembling the play routines, I can't see how you can tell one musician's output against another where no-one seems to know for sure.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

I'm pretty certain the music is by Jason Sheppard. My reasoning is Venus the Flytrap and BSS Jane Seymour both feature identical music drivers. BJS is credited within the game as Jason Sheppard. I've never seen this music driver used in any other ST games - it's definitely not daglish's or lowe's music drivers.

Plus both games were released in 1990 which strengthens the argument.

Updated files will be released in SNDH 4.5

Don't want to bring more confusion, but here is what the instruction manual says.
It's taken from the ST version of the game, but it's maybe the same as the Amiga's one, of course:

- Design : Paul Gregory, George Allan, Alex Davis and Berni
- ST Program : Alex Davis
- Amiga Program : George Allan
- Graphics : Berni and Paul Gregory
- Manual Illustrations : Jer O'Carroll
- Music : McMullan and Low*

* it doesn't "Lowe"

Sure that's just the amiga version

That's often the case with so many ST games
