Great stuff indeed!

And even the hardware listed in the original op was minimal so it's amazing whAt you did with that. Did you use any effects in sound forge?

Stu's elements ep was recorded using his three channel
Mode an sounds luscious when fully mixed .

I think maxymiser can route each my channel through separate outputs on a breakout box when used on a falcon which would enable you to play through effects without sampling/ post production.

Of course I don't deny I use CoolEdit and SoundForge constantly, heh.
I couldn't record any sound without them. :)

Anyway - ST is a good instrument.
PS: So good luck with the Maxymixer! :)

Ha,

I haven't tried the falcon output on maxymiser as I don't have a falcon anymore but I would love to hear someone that has done it.

Oh I meant did you use any fix in sound forge to achieve the results?

Because it really is amazing if all you used were your to hardware fx!

Sounds lush!

Actually the Falcon track wasn't changed at all - I just used AceTracker.
The only difference was - I was recording 'one track by one' to not to kill the CPU.

:) :) :)
Original synthesizers from 70s were very simple, so I thought I could use the YM too, just adding the same effect. :) And it worked, heh.

Just love this, MORE! MORE!
As mentioned earlier, adding filters would be very cool. For example, the modern design Shruthi synth with AVRs and filters by Mutable Instruments; why not something like this for ST? YM with something like Tweety board mod (2 or 3 channels out), external VCF/LFO/EG controlled with Midi to CV circuit. Biggest roadblock is softs of course, any YM Trackers that can send Midi, or Midi Sequencers that can use YM voices? ST meets a mini rack Modular Synth.

Hey, thanks a lot. :)

Well, there's no much more since then.
Meanwhile I made however another song from the series, this time made entirely on Atari 600XL (with additional RAM) in exactly the same technique. :)

But I'm afraid - that's all, heh. :)

Kind regards!

:D The_missing_ piece, Found! Very Nice, those filter sweeps floating through like a wind behind the melody, very tasty. Sorry to hear there's no more, but all your music is so very good, whatever direction you go next will be enjoyed :)

PS if you don't mind an OT question. Over at the SNDH BBS, http://dhs.nu/bbs-tracking/index.php?request=779, I ran across your post about the TFM and the ST. I wasn't sure from the post, did you experiment with the TFM board on the ST? Or where you describing it on a Speecy? Thanks for all.

Well, the FM Yamaha chip, as it appeared, is 100% compatible with a regular AY/ym2149 - however there are kind of 2 chips implemented in one, so finally it has 6ch instead of 3 (that means 3 PSG and 3 FM).
We have 2 of them on the TSFM sound-card, so theoretically we could use 12 channels but sadly no tracker utilizes it. :-\
There are only several songs using full power of the TSFM.

Connecting it into ZX Spectrum means that Speccy "thinks" it has a normal AY. But when it encounters programs using TSFM - it plays extended songs.
It sounds like this -
a) 2 x regular ym2149 (6ch) - http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/zx81/05_Yerzm ... _Space.mp3
b) 2 x FM ym (6ch) - http://velesoft.speccy.cz/turbo_sound/n ... _pulse.mp3
c) 2 x ym2149 + 2 x FM ym (12 channels) - http://zxspectrum48.i-demo.pl/karbo-mug.mp3

Sadly the last option is very hard to use. One has to write 2 "halves" of the song; one in VortexTracker and one in TSFM-Tracker. Then he has to "merge" the files on ZX Spectrum and use a proper player. It's rather torture than real composing. :-\ I wonder how Karbofos found such patience to do it.

Thanks so much for your insight (and tunes). Have been looking very close at the TSFM board lately, wanting to enhance the ST in a like manner. The TSFM would seem to be very close to a drop-in for any system using a AY/YM. Biggest concerns are the differences between the systems, such as the ST uses the YM's I/O ports for control bits.

Oh... I had assumed TFM Music Maker did support YM PSG channels, as VGM MM does for the TI PSG. Oh Well, ATM no softwares exist for ST, so another challenge.

It rulez indeed. I didn't know this one. It is possible because AY/YM has separate outputs for every channel.
Once i was thinking about this kind of modification for Spectrum (as an idea, I'm not a hardware guy) but in a built-in hardware. Then somebody would have to crack any tracker to add the "filters" (and others) commands, hehe.
But finally everybody was too lazy to make it real. ;)

Not long ago I had the idea to do a board run of some of the voicecard boards from the Mutable Instruments' Ambika synth.
http://mutable-instruments.net/ambika/build/technotes
They are open source and with just slight modding could be used as a VCF for other projects (I had in mind a Midibox synth).
I don't think control would be too difficult. It would be great to have full filter automation but could also just use a CV from a LFO or ADSR external to the ST. The Ambika cards have a ATMega uC on board (these boards are really a self contained synth with serial ctrl), with custom AVR firmware this could be used to simplify the interface. I was also thinking that the ST's parallel port pins could be used for triggers, adding minor changes to a low level YM driver to directly access I/O B. With direct port control the only restriction would be no printing while doing music playback :)
Hummmm... will have to think about this some

That's some really awesome music there yerzmyey! I remember toying with this idea myself, back in the 90s when I dabbled in MIDI music a bit. What would happen if you recorded Spectrum or ST sounds and just process the crap out of it or use recording as a way to get many more channels to play around with. But I didn't have any proper recording equipment, so I never explored it further. Just as well probably, because I am a pretty terrible musician :D.

BTW would you be ok with me using some of your music for an upcoming YouTube video I am working on? It's going to be about some ST shot-em ups. You would of course get credited! It's for my own YouTube channel : https://www.youtube.com/user/gearsofgameschannel
